It was a big’n like!

Tanak had a big smash here a year or so ago and walked away too, not sure it was as big as the one today like but both huge and both crews pretty much unscathed.

Not sure what to make of it so far. The Hyundai looks really unstable and although the Puma looked fast I wasn’t sure if that was just Loeb being Loeb or the Puma was good. I think Gus’ first ever stage win confirmed the Puma is a very good car, well, compared to the Fiesta anyway. Toyota looked as fast as usual and there is more to come from that I imagine.

I have Evans to win it and he has started well. Be nice to have a British WRC champion

Anyone else buzzing about Sportscar/Endurance racing to come?

IMSA (International Motor Sport Association), the governing body for the WetherTech Sportscar Championship and other US based series announced a new class of prototype - LMDh. This class in more orinented to attracting manufacturers to race showcasing innovative technologies. This replaces the DPi.

From last year in the 2021 ACO WEC the new Hypercar class (LMH) began allowing manufacturers to do the same. Toyota GR was the first along with Glickenhaus but this year sees Peugeot's 9X8 debut and next year Porsche return with testing having been completed in Barcelona. Ferrari are due to return too. Leaving behind LMP1.

Both aim to do the same thing. The obvious solution? Bring back GTP of course! From 1981 to 1993 that was the last time within sporscar racing in the US a full manufacturer entry was able to enter able to showcase what they are technologically capable of. From next year both LMdh and LMH will compete certainly at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona under GTP Class.

This has brought a tear to the eye of sportscar fans everywhere. The memories will come back and whole new ones will happen. The sentamentalists will go crazy.

And with LMP2 expected to undergo a massive renaissance the future looks very good indeed.

In other news...

Great to see so many talent from the UK Junior Formula world making it into FIA F3. Kaylen Frederick (2020 British F3 Champion), Zak O'Sullivan (2020 F4 Runner-Up & 2021 GB3 Champion), Kushi Maini (2020 British F3 Runner-up) and Ayrton Simmons (2018 British F4 Runner-Up & 2021 GB3 Runner-Up) compete.

G-Drive compete in the WEC. Daniil Kvyat will be racing for them this season. Both are Russian. Why haven’t they been suspended when Nikita Mazepin has.
Holy crap! What did I just see!! The most amazing conclusion to a 24 hour race I think I have seen. The 2022 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship final 30 minutes I think was one of the best ever in the history of the race.

Congrats to Helio Castronoves, Tom Blomqvist, Olivier Jarvis & Simon Pagenaud in the Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05 DPi for winning the final Rolex 24 at Daytona for that class (DPi) before they go to the GTP class in 2023. The Filipe Alberquerque, Alex Rossi, Will Stevens & Ricky Taylor Konica Minolta/Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05 DPi coming a very hard fought second who was on the winning car for a vast part of the final half an hour.

But the best perormers were in the GT Pro class. TWO GT Pro Porches literally bumping and barging each other for over half an hour. There was no room between the KCMG Porsche 911 and the Porsche 911 of Pfaff Motorsport. This is afetr just over 23 and a half hours of racing! For them to be still in a position where on the FINAL lap they can be side to side at the Le Mans Chicane (Formerly Bus Stop Chicane) at the other end of the track to the main start/finish line and effectively go straight on and take each other off into the grass after 24 hours of racing is nothig short of incredible.

Well done everyone.

Jason Plato set to retire from the BTCC after 23 seasons. What F1 driver can boast that and actually properly retire?
Aside from being a tv personality he has had very little media pressure due to racing "cars" rather than the unique high pressue environment that is F1.

There are 20 F1 drivers in the world, its a unique environment.
