Didn't catch who it was but a question from a Journo to Neil:

'Sunderland were the richest club in the world in the 50's, now that it's Newcastle do you think the Tyne-Wear rivalry will continue to even exist?'

Why on earth does a Journo think that's a pressing question to ask.

In fairness to Neil he batted it off saying we are concentrating on ourselves.

Aye when I heard that question I died a bit inside, wtf is the point in asking something so bloody ridiculous man.

Being “The richest club in the world” means nothing tbh. It’s just a cute little tag line. They still have to stay within the parameters of FFP. They’ve left it too late. They won’t ever be able to compete with the spending power of Chelsea and Man City (Both of those clubs are global brands and household names)

Were we even the richest club in the world in the 50s ?...known as the Bank of England club aye, but even that would have been debatable.

Bloody stupid childish question...with a tiny element of truth as we may never be in the same league again for many years. In the seventies and eighties it was obvious that the Manchester united derby was between man u and city but as man citys fortunes declined the media needed to drum up rivalries so bigged up the Liverpool manu rivalry into a derby.............it was never a true derby but it became one in the eyes of the media and most fans outside Manchester. It did not stay like that though did it as man city turned into a Califate !There will always be a rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland its not all about the football but i fear its going back to the 90's when Newcastle were the darlings of the media and we were a club to laugh at ...sad times my friends but things change sometimes for the better!

The keegan era at least we were in the Championship and why we're all dying inside a bit, is the gap between us and them is now an unbridgeable chasm for probably a decade. We needed to take a risk on the manager and sort out the ownership and we've done neither and I think for most fans its the lowest point in our history in my view.
