Keane on why he turned

What? Like not enough zeros on the cheque?
Even after his admission that he’s not really arsed about managing, there’s still plenty on here licking his hoop, blaming the club, journalists etc. Glad he didn’t get it, would’ve been a disaster.
Wright gave it away when he said "everything has to be right upstairs" Your right it was a huge step for keane to leave a well paid job to manage a league one outfit..I doubt he would get another if he failed! If He is supposedly quoted as saying the money wasn't right (i have not read it) well that might mean his personal remuneration wasn't large enough or the package from the board to support the team ongoing wasn't good enough! So yes my personal opinion that the body language of keane and his demeanour on that tv programme (and his colleagues on the show) was of somebody who had been offered the job and yes he has seem behind the curtain and not liked the the look of the backroom boys.

The real question though is there any constraints on KLD freedom to act with his "controlling interest" by the very fact that the financial package for the club is choked because Donald charlie and Santi have to fund 59% of the moneys going forward.............if you don't think that's the crux of our failures over the last we years? ,,,well I do!

Whatever the motives for keane not taking the job..We are demonstratively not "right" in the "upstairs department" and until that changes for the better we are going to be stuck (bookmark this)in a cycle of promotion /relegation for the foreseeable future. The sad thing though it will be championship/league one shitshow at best until we purge the rot out of the ownership group.

Nobody knows what he asked for but im pretty sure he would know he couldn't get 50k a week in league 1 and nobody knows what he was offered. Lets be honest it wouldnt be suprising if the club offered him a crap deal knowing fine well he would reject it so they can come out and say they tried. I wouldn't put it past the club to do something like that.

Especially if Charlie was involved

A few people saying that they wanted Keane and that it was partly down to nostalgia.

Which leads me to ponder: When I get nostalgic about the club I think of managers like Stokoe (for obvious reasons) and Peter Reid (for obvious reasons) but not Keane. Maybe it’s because the first two bouts of nostalgia would be about experiences I had, games and players, people I was with etc. With Keane it would have been about what Keane said, did etc. Apart from celebrating at Luton when we were promoted I don’t recall many ‘moments’. I recall loads from the times of the other managers mentioned. And some from other times when I’d have to think a bit about who the manager actually was. Maybe it’s age thing.

Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be etc.

I think it is an age thing, because for those of us too young to remember Stokoe it really has been slim pickings outside of the Reid years

@Wayne The Punk summed up the big 'moments' of the Keane years for me, and you could even add the late Chopra winner vs Spurs (despite the shithouse who scored it). For me it was more about the way he personified (along with Quinny) the renewed feeling of optimism and having some pride back around the club after 3-4 years of being a national laughing stock and perennial whipping boys.

I also liked the way he brought professionalism to the club, leaving players behind for being late for the bus was quality

It was the right club - he just didn't fancy it.

I think we've probably dodged the bullet quite nicely and look forward to getting behind the new man

Ya 2nd para is really the most important by a million miles. As always on here peoples opinions or agendas will try muddy the waters. You are spot on because if he has to go to the tits cap in hand everytime on anything of importance we areup the creek.

People should 've listened to ME whenever I pontificated on the Keane question. I had perfect a priori insight into what drives this particular irish gobshite and why we ought to pull the trigger on this animal.

He would never have come with Donald and Methren still involved. Ian Wright mentioned it’s got to be right upstairs on the tele. Nothing good will happen to our club while those two clowns are stil here. We have to get them out.

Durban was building something when Cowie sacked him.

Smith was working a miracle and Murray didn't back him properly.

Two own goals by the board, imo

Don't doubt it at all, but both before my time (I started going to matches halfway through the 2nd promotion season under Smith, so missed most of the big moments under him apart from the 2-0 derby win).

Since the bung allegations in 1957 (they were all at it ) We have not really had any period of sustained investment in the playing squad. The sort of investment that lifts the club up and keeps it there,,,,,,, We have had thought short periods when a handful of managers either by luck/accident of or design have had a group of players that have gelled and produced a good team for a very short period ..it happened with Stokoe ,Durban,Smith, Reid and Keane...... and all these managers were failed by our owners who missed opportunistic to establish our great club where it belongs !

Us down ffs hit send too quick

Said from the start he would want a big wedge then probably spit dummy out and walk away as our players are crap no doubt with a massive pay off definitely dodged a bullet
He not the man for a club rebuilding like what we need

First question i would be asking is how much are you going to pay me? second would be how long is my contract? and what financial backing is there there for the team during the length of my contract?I know which of those i think was the deal breaker!

he clearly doesn’t want to try management again as much as he says he does

It was a sensible decision on his part.

Why on earth would any manager with a bit of common sense work for a club who's apparent previous ownership group control significantly more of the club than the so-called current owner?
