The reason he actually gave is that the club has to be right and it wasn’t right. It wouldn’t have gone on as long as it did if it had all come down specifically to money.

I never wanted him anyway. It would have been a sentimental appointment based on who he is. He hasn't managed since he got the sack at Ipswich 10 years ago. It would have been a disaster imo.
