Alex Neil - New head coach confirmed

I would have been happyish with Neil last Sunday as he is an upgrade on Johnson.

However, the shambles of the past two weeks has meant many many decent fans now thinking is supporting this club actually worth it.

Speakman has been an absolute disaster. His recruitment apart from one or two exceptions has been abysmal and he has overseen the shambles at the end of last season and the fiasco of recent weeks.

Speakmen should be sacked this evening if KLD has any sense.

So when you say "We have scoured the world and this has what we have come up with.", what you actually mean is 'I'd have went with Neil too.'?

Pritchard, Roberts, Defoe, Dajaku, Hoffman, Doyle, Cirkin, (Promoting) Neil, Broadhead, Cirkin, Stewart, Winchester. Who are the one or two exceptions, and who (which I'm presuming are the rest) have been abysmal?

Yes strange, usually the arrangement is the club will usually pay the wages if they’ve sacked them until they get another job but apparently our arrangement is we’ll still be paying him even if he gets Sunderland job.

Ah well ignore me. We’re still paying him until June 2022 either way.
Why wouldn't it just be a straight pay-off of his contract? Seems weird.

Strange arrangement? I wonder if that will be cancelled once he joins us?

Not really, Preston terminated his contract but they will be legally obliged to pay all money’s due under that contract, probably not any bonuses but certainly his basic salary

Out of interest who did you want?

Honestly, I didn’t have a preference, I was waiting to be surprised.

I wasn’t massively in favour of Keane, McCann, Neil and Lennon are all blah Grayson type appointments

I guess someone like Manning might have worked, or if we were spending ages on a “process” maybe unearth someone from further afield with a great record, such as a Potter type.

I think everyone has forgotten that fundamentally we have a very good squad, who have lacked leadership. This bloke is a leader who plays direct, pressing football and took a very very ordinary Preston squad to the verge of the Championship play offs

Keane would have been a disaster. Out of touch and not a modern manager. All this bobbins about KLD is out of order - we have no idea what the demands were. He’s probably saved us hell

Let’s get behind Neil, get behind the lads who had managed to get us to top spot only a month ago, and push for the line

Imagine thinking that Neil is a coup for Sunderland. Have our standards really sunk that low? I'm afraid that the smileys dont add to your case marra.

Be interesting to ask him the first question of - "alex how does it feel like to be managing one of England's biggest clubs and with an average attendance of 30000 in league 1"

"Dunno, never managed a club with 30000 fans never mind 30000 average". He is on hiding to nothing and is about to find out what pressure is at a football club. He will either go like the others and sink - or he might just swim - if the fawning on here over him is justified.
So to summarise, he’s on a hiding to nothing, or maybe he isn’t.

So your criteria for a new manager is "Must have managed a team with attendences more than 30,000."?

Who would you have brought in? Wenger?

I always thought a pay off was agreed and the manager paid a lump sum.

Can someone please just reiterate again that Preston North end is not Sunderland AFC. what he did there is of no relevance whatsoever to what he is about to walk into.

As we know if we have 10 minutes of poor football the manager and players are hounded. will he cope with this? Lose 1 game and this board for example will go up in flames.

He is totally untested at a big club. a complete novice.
