Alex Neil - New head coach confirmed

I can't believe people are questioning his average playing career. You look at all the top managers in the last 20 years and they either never played at a high level (Mourinho, Wenger, Benitez) or they were absolutely shite.

It is very rare you get a great player make a great manager. It does happen but it's very rare.

I'd guess the reason why people who've never played at a high level or were average players make better managers is because they love the game and want to prove in the dugout what they couldn't prove on the pitch as a player.

Neil already has a solid CV as manager. Like Norwich were I think he will be a good fit here

The only thing that isn't completely samey about this as Ross/Johnson/Grayson/Parkinson is the short-term contract, if that's confirmed. Think the short-termism is the best thing about this, all focus on one thing, forget about clocks and stuff, since that's the sort of chaos we'd have got under Keane short or long term between now and May.
But it is so samey it doesn't make sense to be optimistic about it.

Though Reidy was only in until the end of the season when he came in.

Which one? Can’t be the one who failed to motivate Ipswich, surely?

Who took 14 games at the start of his first full season in charge to record their first win. Who finished a mighty 15th that season. Whose Ipswich team was 21st when he was sacked the following season.

The one who got a tune out of Sunderland – admittedly – for a single season before he lost the plot. Again. For about the millionth time in his career. Who lost 7-1 at Everton. Whose final game in charge was a 4-1 defeat to Bolton (two results that are positively Johnsonian!).

The one who fell out with Niall Quinn. Niall
Quinn!

That one? Or are you thinking of someone else?
Well!, seeing as you put it that way.😂

The owners have really messed our season up mind. If he'd came in 2 games ago...
There will be no accountability either: the “ownership group” will keep their mates in jobs and Kwischin will hide in his office. Not a single person is going to have to come out and apologize for the mess they have made.

What I normally do is see what their former club supporters have got to say about them. In the main both Norwich and Preston fans have got nothing but good things to say about him.

Compare that to Lee Johnson before he came here.
He said she said. Let’s face it our fans and probably fans of other clubs LJ managed before us found it difficult to relate to him due to his “corporate” speak. Compare LJ and Neil and see who’s got the better win percentage. Let’s not lose sight of the fact this is another uninspiring appointment by those in charge of the club. Let’s not all pretend to be delighted that we’ve pissed away the last 2 games and most likely Saturday all for the sake of swapping out LJ for an out of work average at best EFL manager. Pathetic!

TBF mind Neil has managed at a higher level since coming to England.

Playing careers and managerial careers are somewhat different. Klopp, Wenger, Benitez, Ferguson, Mourinho - Keano was 10 times the player of that lot put together. However, as managers they have won Premier Leagues and Champions Leagues whereas Keane has won nowt and never will. He even denied us a bus parade when we won the Championship as he thought it wasn't worth celebrating.
That is the type of standards we need. Look at the players turning up the other day, looking Raggy in dribs and drabs in there tracksuits playing on there phones. Keane would have them staying in hotel before the game, turning up together in club suits. The whole club is ran like a Sunday league team.

We are Sunderland, we shouldn’t be celebrating winning in league 1 or the championship, that is the attitude we need.

Seems to have split the fans both sides of the fence. Speakman will be on his prayer mat this turns out well. If not the reaction will get quite ugly at the sol
To be fair mate this has got more to do with how the players react to him and I just have a feeling he will get them motivated and organized again amd if that happens the fans will fall into place like they always do, but you're right it could end up a horror show if it swings the other way but the same could be said about anyone coming in as fans are naturally fickle as fuck.

They wasted their time chasing Keane. In my view Neil is a good appointment and clearly a better choice than Johnson.
Looking at his record he came in at Norwich in January, had an excellent half season in which they went up via the playoffs. Relegated next season and done nothing since there or at Preston.

Hardly a glowing CV.

I'm gutted after thinking Keane had signed and have been raging Since the last game but If as expected it's announced it's Neil then i will get behind him and wish him luck for the rest of this season. We have wasted opportunities for top 2 but IF we get into the play offs and go up via a win in the final at Wembley i'll be happy as a pig in shit.
If Keane hadn't been mentioned then his appointment would have been seen as more positive than it is. It's not his fault Speakman KLD or whoever the hell is making decisions let it drag on into a farce so let's get behind him as he's at the helm now for the rest of the season at least
Well said mate.
