West Indies Tour 2022

Just got back from Cheltenham, ignore that shit show for now.

I dont like the squad at all, I feel for Anderson and Broad, and for me its a ridiculous decision.

However, I'd ignore the stuff about dropping bowlers when batsman fail for them 2, they've been taken out, whether you agree or not, because they feel they are such big figures on the dressing room that the team cant move on. I think this is very much a give Root a go as captain without them.

I also find the decision to move Root to 3 ridiculous, same posters above backing it, but we have been here so many times, the team suffers from it, he performances unbelievably worse at number 3 and 4, the whole team scores less runs, and now we have to find a number 4. Who is gonna bat there??? Stokes, he cant do it. Pope and Lawrence are nowhere near good enoigh.

Strauss has at least shown some leadership here mind, whether you agree or not, I find it strange considering that this is all so short term, why make big decisions before coaches and DOC's are in their jobs?

The problem I have with the squad, and it genuinely annoys me, is that they have picked absolutely no top order batsman, I just dont understand it. There is no number 3, no reserve opener.

Its an absolute utter disgrace that Ollie Pope has been picked again, like beyond belief. And Dan Lawrence??? Really???

There is like 1 spare batsman in the whole squad

But we have 9 bowlers. How is Chris Woakes in this squad? He is, what, 32?? He isn't the future, his record overseas is appalling and he needs dropping overseas for good.

Its just a really really inbalanced squad, I dont think I can remember an England squad with so little batting options. Its almost the same as Sunderland with our lack of defensive options!

Well man, this is just bollocks though.

Apart from the fact he's still the best bowler in the country, we're depriving the younger seamers of a month on tour with the best seamer we've ever had. A month of seeing how the best of the best works on his delivery, a month they could be spending soaking up as much of Jimmy's experience as they can.

Stupid twats.
Aye exactly totally confusing.

the whole team scores less runs
Any evidence to support this? We've just gone through a year of awful, shitty team scores where Joe batted at his preferred #4. It stands to reason his personal average will suffer if he bats three, or opens, but as captain he should do what is best for the team and sacrifice his average so the likes of Ollie Pope, Dan Lawrence and Ben Foakes can build our next middle order.

I agree with all your other points. I cannot believe they've dropped two absolute legends of the modern game, as you say, to remove any impediment to Root's captaincy. Has he shown enough as a captain to suggest he has earned this 'support'?
England will lose, Root will be sacked, Broad and Anderson will be back, imo.
It's just the sort of dumbfuckery you'd expect 3, 6 or 12 months ago. Makes you wonder how many of the bad selections were actually down to Silverwood.

I mean, Mahmood and Woakes...? Do we honestly expect them to perform at anywhere near the same level? Woakes averages something like 70 outside England and Mahmood, nippy though he is, is more of a white ball cricketer and shouldn't be anywhere near this team if Olly Stone is fit.
Delighted for Lees
He's been brilliant for us since he came. Will be a big loss if he steps up.

We know he will get at least three games to prove himself as he is one of only two openers in the squad and the other one flatters to deceive, to put it lightly.

Have to click on the first one to see it in full, the middle tweet he’s liked is pretty strong.

Saw something on twitter last night suggesting it’ll be

3 - Root
4 - Stokes
5 - Bairstow
6 - Pope or Lawrence
7 - Foakes

I think Malan has been harshly dropped as well unless he’s asked for some time off.

I could live with that if it means Stokes isn’t bowling, if he is then he’s surely batting too high

Joe Root requests to bat at number 3
Anderson and Broad need to get fired up for the summer to be in the England squad again and not ruling out it's the end for them
Buttler also needs to find form and discussions to if he plays red or white ball cricket
New Director and coach will decide on future of team as in a new cycle year
