Get your point but football clubs are different to normal businesses
If we had a brilliant model that was delivering, or at least showing signs of delivering then I would agree

HOWEVER, the club needs a massive shake

If we don’t bring Roy in and see some “coach” who doffs his cap to authority then we will have a massive cultural problem in the club and the support base
I don't mean he can't have somethings changed but the club have put things in place so there is continuity. That has to remain. Nee one is bigger than the club and the powers that be have to back their plans.

I really cannot see Roy giving up the chance to be Idolised again like his last visit.

He's been a top top professional and he knows what it is the be the leader, leading his team on.

Its an ego thing too.....he'll f***ing miss all that massively, sitting in studio's is boring as fuck for him you can see it in his face practically every time he's on.....Ha'way Roy get it signed.

Exactly my feelings.

I still found it odd when he signed his sky contract a few years ago. Never thought he'd be a lifer pundit like Hansen, Shearer, Carragher or Souness.

Always was under the impression he misses competing. Cannot imagine him being content with sitting on a chair and getting paid for it for the next 15 years.

I'm going to be in the minority but there shouldn't be a comprise from the way the club want things done. Keano works for us or he doesn't.
That’s what happened last time and it ended up with Johnson getting the job when Poyet decided “the way the club want things” wasn’t right.

Looking at a similar disappointment here I am afraid: Speakman has done very little to justify it being his way or the Highway.

Keane had his fingers burnt at Ipswich if you remember, he was promised a lot and initially got some of it, within 6 month the owner stopped funding the club and his remit changed. Also, Keane won’t want to be judged on 4 months of work as well
Aye, we don't know what the setup is currently... If it was discussion and agreement on transfers with LJ and Speakman, but in the case of an impasse Speakman has the final say and makes the decision for example, I'm not sure Keane would accept that (and maybe LJ didn't with regards to Defoe, which may well have hastened his demise, who knows).

Having a director of football will always cause a power struggle I reckon, maybe they should be allowed two overulles each and that's it, like playing your joker. There, I've sorted it.

Id rather have someone on the way up - Manning, Edwards, Kisnorbo, someone I haven't heard of but class - than the boring failures like McCann, Lennon etc.
I think the others being linked heavily show you what Speakman wants. Someone desperate enough for the job they will do what he wants.

I'm not saying there wouldn't be a power struggle for sure, but I'm not 100 percent convinced that Keane would refuse to be a head coach as many believe.

He has publicly acknowledged that the game has changed massively since he retired (and on that assumption he also means since he was last here).

He wouldn't have even entertained declaring interest in the job had he wanted to be an old fashioned hands on everything manager overseeing recruitment etc unless he hadn't done his homework on us.

Again, it is my strong belief that he is massively misunderstood as an individual. He's extremely sharp minded and for someone who is paid to watch Premierleague and International football closely, he surely must be someone who understands that a DOF setup appears (to potentially) be the future model throughout the game.

Yes the bloke has an ego but I think he'd be smart enough to change with the times. That applies to his man management as well. Provided a player is prepared to strive to meet standards and give it their all with the right attitude, then I think he would be prepared to cope with league 1 players making the odd mistake here and there without resorting to heavy handed tactics. I think he has mellowed of recent.

I may be wrong but that's my view.

I bloody well hope it's announced very soon.

I'm sure Roy previously said the transfer side of things really irked him for some reason. He preferred to focus on the tactical side of things and look to motivate the players.

If that's correct then a head coach role would be perfect for Keane, he can let Speakman know what sort of players he requires and Speakman can go looking for them.
