Roy Keane

My Villa mate at work says “thin Gabby was good, fat Gabby was bad”.

But I think he’s probably in the last chance saloon anyway. He seemingly can’t get a job he wants (he probably wanted the Celtic job last summer), so it’s win or bust with us (if he comes). I don’t think he’ll mind that.
Absolutely. It could easily be a case of now or never. And let's face it, Roy doesn't back away from a challenge does he. Just look at what he walked into last time. It was just that 'low risk' comment which I didn't agree with. I think there's more risk for Roy Keane than there is us. We were on course for another season in League 1 anyway. Just go for it.

Same here. For me I wanted someone who fitted into what we are trying to do - young, hungry coach with modern attacking ideas. Now that we are facing the prospect of Keane coming back I am pretty excited.

Same here.

I would have went for Manning but we are where we are.

Personally i don't think it will work and he'll walk in the summer.

However have to support whoever it is.

Your clearly an idiot is that your response to everything when someone says something you don’t agree with football is game of opinions. Tell me how many times it’s worked out well for a club going back to an ex manager.
Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool for starters. There's not actually that many that do go back.

Even Stan Collymore called him out saying the senior players we’re taking the piss and trying to run the dressing room when they had Remi Garde as manager, obviously he wouldn’t have had it his own way with Keane their. Some players want to take the piss and have an easy life Keane won’t allow that but the players who work hard Henderson, Leadbitter etc love him says it all. Exactly what we need!
Ya last sentence will frighten some of our players,we have some who can go huge spells without touching the ball. The odd time i listen to Barnes and Benno they will say ,I think thats the first time he has touched the ball on 28 mins.Keano insists on hard work being the basis,as you say the likes of Hendo love that

Aye keep reading on here about the 'modern' game these days and young modern coaches.
F....g right load of tripe.
SFA even at 60+ managed/coached as probs the best the game has ever seen.
Haven't managed to replace him.
It's still about 11 players on the pitch or as we say these days on the grass ffs and beating the opposition.
Keano hasn't lost touch with football at all man.

Sir Alex Ferguson was probably one of the most adaptive and aware managers ever. He knew his coaching was out of date and so brought in some of the best coaches in the world to work under him while he managed players, the club and everything else.

Football has evolved just as everything in life evolves. SAF was at the forefront of seeing that and finding solutions.

Roy I’m sure has developed as a coach but his main strength is that he sets standards and doesn’t tolerate anything less than 100% - and that isn’t a bad starting place.

If players moan it’s cos they are weak and want an easy option. Sunderland have accepted the easy option for far too long and look where we are!

I’ll take Roy’s way any day.

In what way have tactics evolved?
In what way have players attitudes changed?
In what way have Man City and Liverpool changed?

More teams are now playing this 'pressing' game which wasn't so popular 15 years ago.

Players and agents run the show these days - look at how transfers are engineered.

Liverpool have ditched Wijnaldum and signed Jota. Man City have changed personnel regularly.

Anything else you haven't noticed ?

Skip to 42 minutes in for the best Roy Keane story you'll ever hear

Bumping this, not just for the (hilarious) story, but also because Sleeves goes into a lot of detail about his time with Keane, both at club and international.

Well worth a listen to get the blood pumping again!

Go for Keane, if it doesnt work out we go again in the summer with more options available and more time to sound people out.
Seems like a good deal all round,Keane having one more shot at managing knowing he has to succeed.

2 years ago we brought in Phil Parkinson and Danny Graham. This week we're bringing in Jermain Defoe and Roy Keane. What more do people want?
You could spin that another way, this week we brought in a player who hasn't kicked a ball in months & turns 40 in about 6 months and a manager who hasn't managed for over 10 years!

If anything, it'll put to bed the "Bring Back Roy Keane" argument every time we're in this mess.

Mind you, if it doesn't work out for whatever reason, I'll probably still be gutted he wasn't given the job in May.
