Craft Beer

Had that Belgian Pale, Delirium last night. Tell yer what, as somebody who doesn’t bother with that stuff, it was excellent.
It's pretty average as far as Belgian strong blonde beers go as well. Time to try a few more?

That fresh hop beer tasting the other night was good crack. Tell you what, it's definitely worth going out of your way to try these if you like an IPA. They're hops from Yakima Chief that were frozen whole as soon as they were harvested and then sent to the UK in cold chain and used as soon as they arrived.

If you want to try I'd recommend picking them up this weekend as they'll not stay this fresh much longer. I can fully endorse Pressure Drop - Visit the Mountains, Howling Hops - Dunes of the Cape and Siren - Sold my Soul for Azacca.

The hop aroma on them all was incredible, especially the Howling Hops one. I had a good crack on with the bloke from Yakima who reckoned it was the closest you'll get to drinking fresh US IPAs without going over there to try them. I appreciate he's slightly biased but I can certainly see what he means.

There’s a whole world of Belgian beers out there :) Love them.
Weirdly, the two dark ones I had, more like brown ales were a bit bland. Apart from a higher ABV, felt like I might as well have had a Double Maxim. Pater 6 & Chimay Red.

Is there Belgian style straight up stouts. I’ve never sought them out but the darker stuff appears to be brown as opposed to black.

Got given them, otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered to be honest. Think that Delirium is a supermarket beer so might get a couple for the odd summer drinking.

Saying that, I’ve still got shit loads of Lost Lager that I got free for that

We’ve got a 17% straight up stout on keg at the minute, it’s class, you’d love it.

If you want to try dark Belgian beers have a look at quads, you can get some crackers. Or a strong dark like Pannepot…basically anything by De Struisse and if you have a special occasion look for a black damnation. Beer Gonzo usually have a decent selection.

I wouldn't give up on the quad beer style. Try St Bernardus (Abt) 12. You can get a bottle for a few quid and it's the best interpretation of the style in the world. Chimay Red is average.

In terms of straight up impy stouts, I know Gulden Draak do one, but I've never had a go at it.

One of my go to dark beers is Gouden Carolus Christmas, it has a 10.5% abv and is packed with flavour. They do a classic version which is also very good and I was given a 750ml whiskey infused version which is being kept for the right moment.
Other noteable mentions are Chimay Blue and Trappist Rochefort 8.

Cloudwater have ended their partnership with BrewDog.

This documentary on tonight has the potential to do them a lot of damage. It's long overdue as well by the sounds of things.
