For the record...I'd love Defoe back here but if the club either can't make it happen or don't want to make it happen I'm with them.
Just a thought, ive know knowledge. Im just putting it out here, maybe JD has made unrealistic demands knowing the club can't fulfill them. He gets to keep his 'legendary' status and affection with the fans and makes the club/LJ look the 'bad guys'

This is the point. Their are hundreds of scenarios and none of us really know.

Also wouldn’t be surprised if he’s hanging on waiting for someone higher up the leagues to panic at the end of the window and make him an offer.

Could well be . . . BUT I genuinely think he knows how big this could be. He knows we are close to getting out of the league and could make his status on Wearside even more legendary.

I can well believe that too. And I really hope so cause I’d love to see him back.

Just think theirs a lot of very simplified thinking going on. Both sides will have a set of requirements to get this done. And Sunderland would be daft to say have whatever you like. And Defoe would be daft to say I’ll come on whatever ever terms. All for the sake of nostalgia. Hopefully there’s a middle ground to get the deal done.

Just playing devils advocate ...Johnson might have underestimated the fans desire for JD to return and is feigning interest in Defoe to quieten the horses......... I have nee idea whether JD is still able to perform at the age of 39 or is fit enough to do so .I do know that i would rather see JD coming on with ten minutes to go rather than OB thats for sure .......The manager and owners will do whats best for them as will JD but if im being honest its a gamble .TBH fans are fickle and do their best efforts basking in the glory of hindsight .What do you think the fans will say if JD comes to us and is over the hill and unable to do the job?I guess it will be LJ fault for not ignoring the fans! I personally would like us to be able to outbid Oxford and sign Defoe as if we don't and he does well at Oxford it will be written in the stars that we will be playing oxford in the playoff final and I know who my money will be on to score the winner.I think the mood will be septic for LJ if johnson does well anywhere else and rightly the focus will be on KLD as to why we cannot outbid Oxford.
Under the circumstances this wil be hard for LJ and you dot know whats going on behind the scenes ..Were supposed to have a well oiled recruitment machine with a plan and have a list of players to go for and one of them must be a striker (or they are idiots )but we dont know the limits put to LJ it might be we can only afford to get one striker in and it might be between defoe (who does have a question mark over him)and another fit striker ........ what a decision to make ! Put yourself in lj position What would you do if its a choice JD or another fit striker?

What you’re actually doing is continually looking for an opportunity to have a dig at LJ.

You can’t accept it that he has called out the mag journo for being the hack that he is, you have to try to spin it a different way to keep the pressure on LJ. Bollocks
 
I thought it was strange a few weeks ago when they said that the u23 coaching position wasnt being filled till the summer.It was then i thought maybe kept open for JD.

Spot on i thought that aswell,brilliantly done mind.It takes quite a bright mind to spin it like that ,he nearly had me writing Johnson out banners.

This thread is just dragging on without anything actually happening at this point.

I'd be delighted if he does come but if not then it's not the end of the world and we can move on. I just hope they have an idea of when's best to move on to the next target if things aren't going anywhere because we do need a striker on before the end of the window.
