Jermain Defoe (no longer a rumour)

Johnson knows his survival depends on results at the end of the day. He will do what is necessary. He does have to balance the potential benefit of bringing in a hero against the risk the team will lose focus, will be divided.
We have seen (albeit inconsistent) the best football we've seen for years. Why is that? We have a team of young, talented though still developing players (hence inconsistent) I feel proud of. This is poles apart from the self-serving crew pulling on the Sunderland shirt over recent times. Yes, we are all tired beyond words of League 1. But if we are first and foremost Sunderland fans (I believe this comes from the word 'fanatics'!) PLEASE get behind each and everyone.
Where has the passion gone? We loved the weakest of players in the past as they were one of US - remember 'Super Plank'? We weren't blind. Our support brought the best out of them. Yes SUPPORT is more than paying the entrance fee and 'singing when we're winning'. We yearned for success though enjoyed ourselves any which way as we were a One.
We can't forever go from hailing individuals as brilliant one moment to the devils own the next. Johnson is learning. He's ambitious and young.

I agree with that. We have a model where we will sign talented youngsters who we can develop and fit our style of football. However, you can't put yourself in a straitjacket and sometimes you need to be flexible with that model. Defoe sounds like the sort of boost we need for the run and makes sense for all sorts of reasons. Of course it may not work out but it sounds a no brainer signing. So credit to Johnson and Speakman if they decide to be flexible with their model.

This is from a lad who just came to my office, he also said he had been told this will be a busy week at SOL regarding transfers and that there is 4 x midfielders we have been looking at.

If he arrives for a 2 days fitness check HERE there will be more people following him than were at the Prospect in 1973 !

Johnson been quoted on this? Last I read it seemed he wasn’t keen or was that just some mag journo stirring the pot?

He got quoted yesterday as saying all the stuff saying he wasn't interested was misinformation. Said he has just been scrutinising everything but he is definitely an option and is interested.
