Jermain Defoe (no longer a rumour)


I fancy being ITK tonight. So, Defoe wants a 6m deal with the option on a further 12. LJ isn't convinced Defoe would play enough games this season to warrant the deal (18m) while taking away from the budget. All parties would like a deal but JD is cautious that he signed a deal recently at rangers insisting on minutes that didn't happen. All parties want a deal but Sunderland won't provide any guarantees and also want the control over any extension

I flagged up Scot Wilson's Northern Echo piece yesterday which cast doubt on Lee Johnson's enthusiasm to push through a deal. I did that because Scot is not the type to fly a kite on a story like this.
Having said that, I'll show my backside in Burton's window if LJ'S post match comments mean he IS going to really drive this through. I'd be that chuffed!
Having Defoe around the place, even as an impact sub, would be such a boost.

Defoe’s mam doesn’t have a smart phone so thinks it would be a fuck on to get tickets for home games which is holding the deal up.

I was just reading positive news on Broadhead


there is a chance he'd play very little actually

still think theres no risk or loss getting him in

Well tbf he was talking shite after what johnson said after the match
 
even if he signs i can't see him starting games given how much graft LJ wants from his players in terms of pressing. Defoe just won't be able to do that. late impact sub surely

A weird one. A few ITKs seem adamant Johnson had stopped the deal. He has said point blank we are working hard to get him here.

Maybe someone got the wrong end of the stick,? maybe he’s had a change of heart? I don’t think he’d string people along if the deal is off, just causing more problems in the long run that so I believe we are working on it.

Don’t know just hope it gets done.

Maybe a mag journalist and a few fans that are anti-Johnson helped spread a junk rumour.
