Jermain Defoe (no longer a rumour)

Gone awfully quiet on here, I wonder why? đŸ€”

You’d expect the manager confirming we are trying to bring in a player everyone was desperate to sign yesterday would have everyone very excited!

Odd.

I will be generous and assume everyone if just enjoying their post match sup after a very good win.
Thinking that myself. Thought there would’ve been another 20 pages or so

I head a rumour that he actually said that with his fingers crossed behind his back and, when the reporter finished and left, LJ turned round to the guy that sells him his flat caps and mouthed “as if. I’m not signing that bad little bastard.” Looks like it’s not happening

Just passing on what I heard.

Nah, the headbangers were posting about it being an ego problem with LJ long before Wilson put his article out. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he was flying a kite based on extrapolation from the pc and chatter on here.
Everyone knows who the main culprit was on here in terms of being scathing about Johnson for it, but at the same time anyone who still believes anything he says is daft anyway. đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

The club - like every other professional club the world over - will be monitoring fan sentiment and will know just how much they have to lose if they don’t at least make an effort for him. That statement isn’t a surprise at all.

What the thinking is behind the scenes though, we’ll never know. Hopefully they move heaven and earth to go for him.

I flagged up Scot Wilson's Northern Echo piece yesterday which cast doubt on Lee Johnson's enthusiasm to push through a deal. I did that because Scot is not the type to fly a kite on a story like this.
Having said that, I'll show my backside in Burton's window if LJ'S post match comments mean he IS going to really drive this through. I'd be that chuffed!
Having Defoe around the place, even as an impact sub, would be such a boost.
Let's hope it can happen.

Been told by someone very high up at BT that Oxford have made him a ‘very good’ financial offer
I’d find it difficult to comprehend that money is all that important to him at this stage in his career. A multi millionaire several times over who is probably destined for a next career step in the media or coaching/managing, possibly all three, not sure his going to be driven too much by financials for what could be the last 6-18 months of his career. I may be wrong but I doubt Oxford are offering box office money for him so it would boil down to other factors (affinity, emotion, sentiments, bowing out on a high, promotion potential, in front of big adoring crowds etc) which you would think would put us in the driving seat
 hopefully

I heard the microphone couldn’t pick up what he said because they don’t do stands for people under 5ft and it misheard him say he’s not signing him.

Add game time to that. Oxford likely to be offering more guaranteed minutes you would think
