It wasn't body language it was Lee Johnson's answer to the question do you want Defoe. It was just a strange answer. I am pleased he has cleared it up because it certainly sounded like he didn't want him. It would be a great signing for so many reasons.

It would leave us pretty short, but if we can shift him on for a decent fee I can see how it would be difficult to turn down. He is a League 1 standard player and hasn't progressed as we have hoped.

As a six month stop gap until we sign and rehab Broadhead (a kid who he signed and played) I’d be very happy with the poaching nature of Defoe not arsed about him doing 15km per game. If he signed he’d instantly be the one I’d want a chance to fall too above all other, even Stewart.

Not sure what the plan is if Hume goes. Most of our alternatives for Cirkin are square pegs in round holes to an extent. I don’t generally like having the classic two players for every position when those two players can ‘only’ play in that position (if that makes sense). Makes squad management a more difficult exercise. But left back is almost the worst position to fill. Hope there’s a specialist in the youths that we can use - or that Huggins isn’t too far away.
