Going for a walk

Yeah the Shotton stretch is depressing with all the dumped shite either side in the ditches, really is poor. Apart from that it's a lovely stretch.

I think I'll put that walk on my "to do" list as I know the route and transport pick up wouldn't be overly difficult. About 17 miles looking at a few gpx files I've linked together. Ryhope to Shotton Thornley Crossings 8.7 mile then about 8 mile to Hart Station.

Also the option of the coastal walk from Sunderland down to Hartlepool (Headland) as well.

jesus christ that's a good walk
The hart to haswell and the coast are good to combine in a loop, there’s a few different starting points (Oakerside, castle Eden, hart station etc) and distances and you don’t have to mess on with transport.

need to drop the other half off at the hospital in an hour, gonna stay up washington and check out part of the weardale way in prep for the croxdale to sunderland walk i fancy doing

I did that last year without realising it was part of the weardale way. I’m planning on doing the chester le street to Durham section in the next few weeks. Then when the caravan season opens back up, I’ll start doing the sections further up the dale.

That section you’re doing today is a nice walk.

Yeah on it now just doing Fatfield up to Bournmoor/A1M as could get call from hospital at anytime to pick wife up and car is at in laws. Just familiarise myself with the route as the croxdale to sunderland walk, this but round Lumley area is about the only part I've not done before. This Lambton Estate is a nice but of land mind

I live right next to the lambton bit you’ve walked past and the walk through ‘the Gill’ used to be my morning dog walk until the spaniel kept getting lost flushing the pheasants.

I still haven’t been on the new walks they’ve opened up in lambton park yet. They’re only open in the summer on a weekend and we’re always at the caravan. I’ve heard good reports about them.

I’ll make the effort to do them this years as the place is impressive.

My in-laws live in Fatfield just along the river hence I just stayed up that area today. It's lovely for walking, lots of choices

You ever see the otters when your walking the river Gordon? There's meant to be quite a few up there now.
In-Laws have. I haven't yet but have seen Seals in that part of the river. Seen a Kingfisher a few times just near The Havelock.
Don't forgot! Tune into BBC One today at 5.10pm to catch Matt Baker, Anita Rani, and the Countryfile team as they explore the Durham Heritage Coast.

On the 50th anniversary of the miners’ strikes, the Countryfile team will be discovering how our incredible coast has risen from the ashes, and reinvented itself 👉 BBC One - Countryfile, Durham Heritage Coast

Done 4 miles today, genuinely couldn't be bothered but more miles in for the 1000 target, up to 108 miles so far which I'm pleased with, so got to keep everything crossed this foot keeps behaving itself. Weather has been excellent for walking this month
That Durham cow website is really good for the weardale and Teasdale way info. 👍

Yeah I've downloaded the gpx files which are pretty useful.

Yeah I did 4.5 as well. Through the gill bordering lambton’s land. Across to primrose hill then back through Elba park. Had the lab with us today so 1-1.5 hours in her limit.
Definitely doing Durham to Chester section of WW next Sunday, with the springer on our own next Sunday.

I’ve got the OS app and pay £25 pa for access to all maps. Cheaper than buying individual maps especially when over the lakes.
You can plot your own route and live track with gps to stay on track.
It’s a good app although I need a back up power pack for the phone on the longer walks.

Err tune into BBC!

Got me on this in a few months, was going to do it late last year but work got in way when I was there.

Views are meant to be word beating, and the distances arent far but I think its quite hard work as a lot of sand walking

think the route has been expanded but gonna stick to 4 days

Managed 23 consecutive days of minimum 10k steps got a bit cocky and did Thornley, WHill, wingate, Shotton, Haswell Plough, Ludworth and back to Thornley yesterday 9.5 Miles 20k steps. Wont be leaving the house anytime soon as i've done me bloody groin :(

Fair play to those that do 10k steps a day every day its bloody hard.
