Jermain Defoe (no longer a rumour)

He’s good fun 😂 most useless sets of stats either, and since I’m a mathematician by trade it makes me chuckle

If you’re a mathematician by trade, would you care to finally back up your claim that my “maths is shocking”, by extrapolating 6 losses in 27 games out to 10.22 losses in 46?

With regards to “useless sets of stats”, it’s worth pointing out that I didn’t introduce a proportion of losses to games played as the be able and end all of judging success/failure. That was in fact…erm….you. I simply replied to you,
They aren't man mate, not actual Sunderland fans. I refuse to believe a single one is desperate to see us fail so they can come on an internet chat thing and talk to strangers about it. If there are any, they never were and never will be fans of this club and therefore don't matter.

Let’s see at 5pm, if we don’t win. I reckon this place will be Exhibit A, yet again, in respect of all the usual suspects.

Exactly. I wont pretend Im Johnson's biggest fan but do I want him to be a success here. Of course I do.

Defoe should be here its as simple as that. However, do I want SAFC to loose today becuase I havent got my wish of course I dont.

Ill be leaving soon to do over a hundred miles to support my club today of course I want us to win ffs. @Sweeper is talking out of his arse.

I don’t disagree with you mate. However we still should have the pull and resource to get us over the line. I don’t know the answer to this, but has a club of our stature ever been in the same position for this long.

The point is, fans are well within there right not to be happy about constant failure.
Leeds did three years here so we’re probably the worst - but not by a huge amount. I don’t think it’s true that ‘we should have the pull and resources’ tbh. Or more accurately we certainly ‘should’ but unfortunately the Donald regime fucked us. Think of what the club did last summer. A complete overhaul of the squad without the benefit of huge amounts of money to spend. We didn’t have the cash as we had to keep to scmp rules having continually bladdered wages and fees on shite throughout their time here.

The way the club is acting now will get us promoted eventually. I’m absolutely certain of it. Buying promising players and developing them will do it. Either we succeed this season or we don’t and rebuild. The critical difference, though, is that rebuilding this summer will be magnitudes easier as we’ll be doing it on the back of some big sales. So while it’ll be a setback it won’t be nearly as bad as it was under The Dopes. The tough bit is gonna be the emotion that comes with it. Totally understand that the fans have had enough of being here. But the KLD era is only a year old and it took over the club at literally it’s lowest ebb. They’ll get us there at some point - we just might have a little more pain to go.

Thrn they aren't and never were fans of this club- if they actively want us to lose.
Don't get me wrong, I'll criticise as much as the next man when we lose and players don't perform.

Is that the option for Defoe though? Will he only sign a contract that guarantees him starts. In which case that’s not the choice. It’s Defoe to start or nothing.

Or does signing him- to come on for 20 minutes take us to our wage limit. Which means we can’t have a centre mid. In which case the choice is. Defoe or a striker and midfielder.

The reality is we do not know. None of us know Defoes requirements. And none of us know what we’ve offered.
fair points but we have 1 decent striker at the club. If Stewart gets injured or we need a goal with 20 minutes left the option is AOB.

Im sure Defoe will get game time. He would have given the place a massive boost given the latest streak. Crazy that we have not made this happen this week.

No one knows what's going on, so it seems daft to go on about 'it' when we don't even know what 'it' is.

Chill.

I'm exactly the same mate. I look back at some of the easy chances we missed which have really cost us in this league and would have won us the game - Wyke v Lincoln, Graham v Charlton, Grigg v Burton etc. Defoe scores those and we really could have been a Championship club again.
I know its easy to say in hindsight but, if its a choice of any of our strikers we've had at this level for one of the chances to fall to in big games and Jermaime Defoe, I pick Defoe every single time (even over Stewart or Maja).

No-one is saying he'd be the Defoe we signed years ago but he would likely be the best finisher this league has seen and those tiny margins can be huge come the end of the season.

Bellends on here cos we have not signed a 39 year old who left years ago. Sing his name if we 1 down. Fuck off I'll urge the lads ( including the new ones) on . Fannies.
Are people saying they’ll sing his name if we go one down? I’ve only read a few posts on this thread. If so that’s f***ing mental

Ill bet the loudest are the match day thread fans anyway, they never attend games so won’t be a peep from them other than on here.

You’d pick Defoe over Stewart?

Edit - ah, I see what you mean. You’d pick him for the chance to fall to, rather than pick him in the team ahead of Stewart. Fair enough.

Yes and many are saying "it will happen" over and over again . Repeating it so often in hope.

I replied yesterday saying I wont be and no fucker around me.

Totally agree with you again, to question what we are trying to do is silly at this point. If you look at my posting history you’ll see Just how much I hated Donald and Charlie, and how much I didn’t want them pretty much from the start. I couldn’t be more with you on that, and what they did to this club still makes me shudder.

However I don’t think Johnson has been giving a bad hand at all. He had a good squad last season, but that winning formula seemed to fall into his lap. He only started playing Sanderson because he had to, and as soon as players started coming back, he fucked about, and it cost us dearly.

Same this season, he’s got an excellent squad, one that in my opinion should be promoted. Yet at nearly full strength he thought he was pep again, kept chopping and changing and trying silly things, which is a trend in his career, and again we went on an awful run.

Injuries again meant he didn’t really have much choice and he had to play a settled side, we again went on a good run. But the worrying thing is it looks like a bad one is on the way.

He also seems to be far too worried about what other teams are going to do. When he comes up against a good manager opposite, he focuses on there team, and nobody can honestly say he hasn’t been out thought a few times despite him thinking he’s the cleverest man in football.

My point is, as much as I don’t disagree we can be optimistic for the future, I’m massively pessimistic about Johnson, and I think fans who question this are correct to do so. Hope and pray he proves me wrong but so far he really hasn’t and everything we’ve been told about him has been bang on.

Yep, he looks a very solid signing. I dont just think it's the defenders though, it's the whole system and lack of any decent defensive midfielder with strength.

Let's see if he transforms the defence, he can't be any worse than Flanagan. I think he will do well, but will Johnson put him in any time soon?
Reckon he'll go straight into the side today. Three at the back. Not like he is breaking up a solid defensive partnership, we've been all over the place at the back for a while now.
