Jermain Defoe (no longer a rumour)

I wouldn't think so, but the financial and vocal backing of 30,000 fans should, and the fact we've had years of having a category 1 academy available to us. Just 2 of our natural advantages at this level.

Nothing about Sunderland is relevant to whether or not another club is punching above their weight. And it’s been clear for over a decade now that crowd size isn’t particularly relevant to on-pitch success. We’re one of the (numerous) poster boys for that.

You’re doing it again. If you’ve got no actual answers to what people say to you - don’t invent things that they didn’t actually say.

You do realise that my post is there in black and white don’t you, and that everyone can see what I did and don’t actually say?!

Great rant mate. Hope you get behind the club today, and for the rest of the season, as a “fan”.
Don’t worry we won the PPG trophy for 2021 kid

You are but that’s ok. You are so obsessed with Johnson you have lost perspective. Definitely sexual. But that’s ok.

Brilliant deflection mate. Not at all in keeping with your childish image.

There’s a good chance of one thing, and also concurrently a good chance of the opposite. Welcome to the twilight zone.

No. But there’s a massive amount of context missing there that makes size of club almost irrelevant. The football league rules are designed to make it that way. All it takes is a period of mismanagement - and we had 2.5 years of that from the Donald regime - and you’re left with a wage bill full of overpriced underperformers and a squad that cannot generate you a sale fee to allow you to rebuild. We’re the biggest club at this level by far - one of the biggest who’ve ever played here - and we can’t use our extra muscle because we’re still pinned in by previous mistakes. No amount of ‘big club’ ‘tinpot league’ crack from our fans changes that, unfortunately.

I don’t disagree with you mate. However we still should have the pull and resource to get us over the line. I don’t know the answer to this, but has a club of our stature ever been in the same position for this long.

The point is, fans are well within there right not to be happy about constant failure.

Perhaps in your mind.

You can be critial of the Club and still want us to win games. We all want to be out this league asap whatever our views are on the manager.

If Johnson has fkd up bringing Defoe back he deserves all the criticism he will get but do I want SAFS to win today of course I do.

If its 0-0 with 20 minutes left and we could bring Defoe on or AOB. Thats the option.
Not if Defoe isn’t match fit and ready to play. If he needs a fortnight and Stewart goes down injured today we can’t use him, if we signed someone who’s playing games abd on form we’re covered. We don’t know the full situation.

Good signing but let's wait and see how he does first. Stoke fans said he can't play out from the back whatsoever and boots it, that's completely different to how we play. Be interesting to see of we change.

On the face of it he seems a very good signing, height and strong. Let's see how he does.
He can defend though, so that's a bonus

You’ve completely lost the plot. It’s funny to see. So intent on arguing the toss about your hero Johnson with so many on here that you’ve cracked. Talking about childish image, maybe you are also a very small man and hence feel the need to defend LJ so much? Hmmmmm

No, but Wycombe's entire history shows they're punching above their weight, it's not a criticism, they've done well. Even their fans would probably acknowledge it, and that's why there is zero pressure on Ainsworth.

Crowd size might not be relevant in the premier league, but it's the biggest revenue maker at L1 level. If we can't make it relevant then it's a failure of management.

Hes obsessed with figures. The reality says otherwise. Probably designed a spreadsheet that sees us promoted and will send it to the football league saying its unfair as the xg says this and that.
Fuck me man it's relative to where we finish not some silly dreamt up stats. He actually could be lj
He’s good fun 😂 most useless sets of stats either, and since I’m a mathematician by trade it makes me chuckle

I still can’t believe people are taking it as simply as ‘the manager doesn’t want him’. That is quite naive.

If you re phrase that to ‘the manager doesn’t want him, based on the deal conditions required’, then I think it would be close. But I guess that does not support the narrative or get clicks on the Echo website.

The club and manager have clearly explored and expressed a desire for the prospect of signing Jermaine Defoe, this is fact and out there. It wouldn’t get to an offer if that was true without LJ’s green light. But the deal, like any, has to be right for all parties. And it looks like this one wasn’t going to be right in the end all considered.

I for one still hope it happens, but will wait for the full explanation if it doesn’t.
I am sorry but your post if far to reasoned and thought through for my liking!

Correct. We simply don’t know. There’s just a clamour for people to fill in the gaps, to suit their own agenda. Most notably by those who are - I will repeat it - desperate for the club to fail, so they can point the finger at the manager.

If we don’t win today, you need only come on here at 5pm to see who they are.

There’s no such thing as the PPG Trophy for 2021, as far as I’m aware.

Is this a third example of you making things up, which nobody has said, to avoid dealing with the reality of what people actually do say?
Yes there is. I just made one for you especially. Made it out of the foil from my Kit Kat

The chances of us getting an in-form match-fit striker as a League One club in January is pretty remote mind. Particularly one who will be fully aware they'd be playing second fiddle to Stewart.

Or we could have pushed the deal through by now and be halfway through this fortnight. As opposed to dragging our heels until January 31st to save 50p a week

Fair enough but Id take a 5% fit Defoe over a 100% AOB for the last 20 minutes in any game if we need a goal.

Less bile against those who dont share your opinion eh? We all want SAFC to win and if Johnson gets us promoted nobody will be happier than me to be proven wrong.

However, if we have shoot ourselves in the foot this week by not taking a gift horse in the mouth people who have not made that happen are not above criticism.

Again, you haven’t addressed a single of the points raised in that reply. It’s a reply for the sake of saving face, nothing more.

Want to try again, but actually address one of the points which have been made? Or will we get another empty whinge about how “Johnson is [my] hero” (presumably because I’ve made the controversial point that there are still 19 games left, and we are right in the mix for promotion).

They aren't man mate, not actual Sunderland fans. I refuse to believe a single one is desperate to see us fail so they can come on an internet chat thing and talk to strangers about it. If there are any, they never were and never will be fans of this club and therefore don't matter.

Is that the option for Defoe though? Will he only sign a contract that guarantees him starts. In which case that’s not the choice. It’s Defoe to start or nothing.

Or does signing him- to come on for 20 minutes take us to our wage limit. Which means we can’t have a centre mid. In which case the choice is. Defoe or a striker and midfielder.

The reality is we do not know. None of us know Defoes requirements. And none of us know what we’ve offered.
