Sheepfolds development

What would you like to see?

The regeneration of the Sea Front has been great, busiest it’s ever been in our lifetimes. Nee hotels going up in the centre and a cultural hub that is growing. Sheepfolds and nee access roads to make it easier to get into and out of the city with lots of new houses to go with it. They’ve brought events such as tall ships etc. and have a great air show (most years).

I agree more could be done and it could be done quicker (and should’ve been done 20 years ago) but you can’t knock the current endeavour.
Don't you start.;)

Nope, passionate about where I come from, love the place and just want the best for Sunderland. I've been left disappointed by the failures and lack of vision by our illustrious council leaders.

I'll be the first to say well done if they actually do something of note, something to improve our lives and make us go wowwwwwwwwww, but they never do. It's just bullshit and token gestures, to pull the wool over the locals eyes and cling onto power.

I'm by no means advocating Tory control, but maybe that's what it could take, to shock them, kick them reet up the arse and get them to really focus to produce the goods.

This development is nice and will be a lovely addition to the area, but it's not got any wow factor. Though I am positive about it.
Imagine posting this what with all the development that's currently going on all over the shop.

Mad isn’t it. I think we all see the massive failings previously but also the stuff that is happening now almost makes it feel like a new city to me.

We’ve only been a city for 30 years this year and we’re starting to see some stuff happen, I’m positive for the future and where my kids will grow up.

Can see this being something like the boiler shop in Newcastle - a more upmarket(hipster) stack if you will. Get some decent bands & DJs on and it will be a canny space.

I'm one of the councils biggest critics but it does appear they are finally getting their acts together with lots of stuff appearing to be starting to happening - its been a long time coming but things are getting better.

I appreciate I'm not allowed to have any negative opinion about Sunderland council, so apologies for that.

As far as the OP is concerned, good development, will be an asset to Sunderland.

Anyhow lads, got meetings galore to go to, so ta ta for now,
Daft shite.

If you aren't massively impressed with the Fire station auditorium then you are the problem imo.

Yawwwwwwn

We are just trying to play catch up with other places

In order to surpass places you do actually need to catch them up first, no?

The city is clearly at a place where development is happening at a good rate and becoming a better version of itself.
Obviously we can't forget the circumstances & failings of previous investment (lack of) but to deny there is a vision is baffling.
What exactly do you want?

I don’t think that’s the case at all as people have the right to criticise the council but equally they can or should be applauded when things are being developed. Just interested in what people’s expectations are for being wow’ed.

Personally I think a single wow development won’t make the city but a number of smaller ones are needed to make a place - nothing wrong with the city centre being a good respectable place rather than wow. There are clearly positive signs but still a long way to go and a lot to do, to make the whole city centre more attractive and desirable.

There has been 10 years of Austerity so no surprise we are catching up. It's all very positive.

Also the council didn’t own the site for probably 15 years or so, thats not to say they couldn’t have done development elsewhere mind you. However that might have worked in their favour to have a bigger more comprehensive plan. Sunderland has and continues to be a place that is difficult to get things to stack up but these are all positive signs that things are moving in the right direction.

Wish somebody would build an indoor ski dome there, mainly as I'm sick of having to drive to Castleford but also I'm pretty sure it would be popular, the Castleford one always seems busy and I try and go on a Monday so not exactly peak times.

What’s up with Silky?
Its extremely basic and the material used is basically a stiff brush, so if you fall it can really hurt, Castleford uses fake snow, a mix of water and some fancy chemical that creates a circular snowflake. Makes learning much easier for numerous reasons including less pain when you fall for the 10th time.

Also snowzone type set ups are inside so doesn't matter the weather outside, might sound stupid but even though its cold in Castleford you never really feel freezing whereas if you are outside with a wind it gets pretty painful quickly.

The difference is like playing a game of football on a school yard compared to a good 3g pitch.

Someone has tried and failed just down the road.
