Lees likely to open in West Indies

Over the moon for him, I said he should have had a chance a while ago so should a few players.

Really hope Libby ends up in the squad too.

Deserves his chance. Hope he can make the most of it, where everyone has failed in the main. His old partner at Yorkshire couldn't.

Shame for Durham if he does step up.

"Lees has not produced huge numbers in county cricket in recent seasons but there is a realisation that allowances need to be made for the toughest role for a first-class batter."

Conveniently ignoring it's the hardest ground in England to bat at. Averaging 48 here is like 80 at the Oval.

Three Durham players in the test XI may stop FTECB relegating us to the minor counties at least.

Good luck to him. The West Indies is a great place to start off where the pitches are a lot flatter and slower than they used to be 15 or so years ago. Let’s hope he fills his boots. He’s a cracking bloke by all accounts as well.

Pitches were anything but flat last time mind and no doubt their bowlers will be fired up and smelling blood as usual against us

I'm probably thinking back to the tours before then when they had some flat drop in pitches. I rate their quicks mind and think Gabriel and Roach are a handful for anyone. No easy games in test cricket but there are worse places to start I reckon.

It was an open secret that he had no respect for Gale. In fact I'd imagine Gale was the one coach that the players and members would have had no sympathy for in the recent cull.

Be great if he could be the answer. Another feather in Durham’s cap, has any county produced more cricketers that have had such an impact as Stokes, Wood, Colly, Harmison, even Stoneman and Jennings, in recent years?

Most if not all contributed to some major successes, Ashes and World Cup winners and big Test match wins home and abroad.
