Level you played at/ Level you should have played at.

Played for the school team, should never have been near a pitch lol.

I was the kid who turned up for every team no matter what, stuck my name down and hoped for the best, got to play on every school team there was, due to people not turning up, the only 2 times i earnt it was cross country running and badminton.

Also played chess at county level due to no one else being able to play back then, was just asked anyone able to play chess, we came 3rd out of 8 teams, only 3 turned up on the day lol, seems a big difference between being able to play and being good at it :)

My son turned out to be good at most sports, wish he had stuck at it.

Did some goalkeeper coaching for my son and ended up being asked to take all the keepers, seems I was a much better coach than a player.
I was a bit like that, ended up playing cricket, rugby, football, tennis, hockey for school and also cross country and 400m. Was briefly about 3rd fastest 400m runner in county but it was my least favourite distance for running and my knees were a mess after partial dislocation and painful because of inflammation caused by growth spurt so I could compete but not really train without being in agony. Also ended up playing chess for school. I couldn’t play it then and my 13 year old beats me now.

I always wanted to learn and play cricket. Only kids I knew that played lived in Ryhope village and I’d only see them now and again. Amazing how they played in ryhope but a mile down the road nobody played at all.

I still don’t really understand the game today

Played for school up to high school. I played football constantly as a kid, unfortunately not very well.
Had about 20 years off then resumed my football career in the Hexham 5 a side league, reinventing myself as a goalkeeper, I wasn't too shit at that, but looking good in goal at 5 a side is easy, come off your line, make yourself big and if the ball hits you everyone thinks you've made a great save.
Just play 5 a side one a week these days for fun, still frustrated with how my legs don't do what I want them to and frustrated with how easy it is to get injured now.

Was at what is now a premier league club from age of 10 to 20. Glass ankles put an end to any more progression. Plus at 20 I sort of hit level where I realised I just wasn't quite good enough.

Did a really good pirouette turn ala Zidane once. The lad I did it against is probably still searching where I went. If they were judges on the sidelines it would have scored 6's across the board.
Other than that I was quite decent but no where near good enough to progress past Sunday football
If only is the saddest thing in life!

Leeds academy about 14 years ago. Tore my cartilage at 16, couldn't be bothered with the physio so when it was 'healed' I tore it straight again. Fucked it off after that but my knee is totally fucked. Could have had a knee replacement at 25 due to 'severe degeneration', fissuring, all sorts of shit. 30 now and still playing but for West Yorkshire Police team waiting for it to blow.

I'd never have made it to any decent level mind - just never dedicated to it at a younger age and always a confidence player which I never had. Always thought the 21 other players on the pitch were better so hampered me massively. Now I regret not working harder at it when I was younger. 16 year old me was a right c.unt.
Such a familiar story that. I played in a tournament in the Netherlands when I was 15 and we played against Excelsior who Robin van Persie played for, at the time (or for that game at least) he played on the left wing and I was RB. He made me feel like I'd never played the game before, he was beyond exceptional.

I played Sunday pub leagues in Harrogate and carlisle. That was my potential fulfilled!!

Still play over35s and over 40s which are actually better standards as you get some of the ex pros and semi pros turning out. Chris Lumsdon is one of the few Sunderland connections I've played against but many other ex Carlisle, Workington, SW Scotland players still have a go.

I think with you only being 5 foot 1 it might have been better had you got into horse riding. You never know you might have won the grand national or even wrote red rum or shergar.

Err... 5 foot 1 and a half thank you very much.

And you don't need height to have a reasonable long distance throw and to be able to hit a ball and not get out!

(Actually I was about 5ft7 when I went into local league cricket!)

And I hate Horses!

I wasn't bad at Snooker either. Played a bit with mates and I was the best of us hands down, and entered a few competitions, always just outside the top players. "Best of the rest" almost. Unfortunately to be good at Snooker you need a lot of time to practice and coaching. Not something I had either of.

The yearly tournament held in Amsterdam ? I played in that 3 times, it’s how I was noticed by 2/3 Dutch clubs. It was massively popular in the 80’s/90’s. I never come across anyone on RvP’s level mind.

Always seemed to be a lot of Redby players and kids from Monkwearmouth area attending.

I was the same height as Messi as a child so if I’d had access to growth hormones I could have made it big. Never progressed beyond league division 13.
