The Cavalier pub Silksworth.

Building on green spaces in the city has been going on for decades. I don’t like the Tories and they may have exasperated the problem but let’s not pretend it began in 2011.

We were talking about brown field sites 'allowed to rot' - which are for the most part are in private hands. The council hasn't got the money to buy them and turn them over to the developers for what they are willing to pay - that is if they want them at all. Similar situation re shopping centres - the big landlords (many based off shore) are not willing to lower rents but know the land value will appreciate and they can wait.

De-regulation has been one of the biggest factors in the deterioration of our housing stock.

Green belts have been under immense pressure for the last 10 years and only recently Liz Truss wanted to abolish 'green belt' safeguards altogether.

Totally right with this. Same is happening in Houghton. Any green land development is given approval by the council. Yet amenities aren’t improved on, schools, doctors, dentists etc.
They are extending Newbottle by over 50% tbf. Probably needs it with all the houses around about though.

When junipers pantry went in there I thought it was a great move but just didn’t work out for whatever reason.
Because gilly is a shite businessman, all his ventures have failed. His food was shite in there aswel, the steak place above the dun cow not much better

I don’t know him but have heard similar sentiments, however always thought the food was decent when they were at the Barnes. Never went to the dun cow and only went to cavalier once, but the food and the service wasn’t great if I’m honest - although not sure they were directly responsible for the services, just food.

Aye junipers was the best of the lot, I think he is just working as a chef again now as opposed to running his own place last I heard.

Yeah I knew about those, I literally live about two minutes away but I meant the ones on the back of that where the stream is on the back of Gulley Law.

Add in they are building on the top area next to Doxy, are trying to build on the field at Plains Farm (but think it got knocked back tbf), failed at Herrington Park. Literally just want blocks of housing only in Sunderland.

Last time I was in was in the Summer, ordered my drinks and the card machine kept loosing connection ended up having to transfer the lass behind the bar the money to her bank account.

They weren’t serving food, the play area was a death trap and the grass in the beer garden was all overgrown.

This is why chain pubs are cleaning up. Too many independents aren’t well ran. Can you imagine going into a Marstons and any of that happening.

It'll definitely happen. That land will be worth a fortune for housing.

Incidentally I've never been to that pub.
There’s been rumours for years about it and supposedly the planning permission was granted years ago too. There was talk last year that plans to build a crematorium opposite got knocked back. The fields behind have been problem after problem since they started building on them. Apparently there used to be an outdoor swimming pool at The Cavalier, not sure if it's true like.

There was. Far end of the car park next to the adjoining house. Concrete monstrosity and not big enough to swim an length in.
