Jermain Defoe (no longer a rumour)

Age has nowt to do with it, he's still a class act and would smash league 1....!! Perfect partner for Rossco......

Crikey. Imagine thinking that age has nothing to do with performance in professional sport.

Can’t see it but it’s strange nick barnes mentioned his name to speakman when it wasn’t even a rumour at the time and now he’s leaving. Would love it to happen personally. Being 39 is irrelevant when you’re so naturally gifted and playing in a shocking league.

Still looks like a 25 Yr old too. A good advert for keeping fit and off the booze.....too late for me now tho ha!

If I was him and money was no object I would be here like a shot. Imagine the adoration and job satisfaction you would get playing for a club that adores you.
However , it just doesn’t seem to work like that unfortunately.

Definitely have him back on a short term deal, imagine being a league 1 defense and having to worry about Defoe and the leagues top scorer

Love Defoe, but I’m not sure how wise it is. I couldn’t care less about being able to ‘afford it’ we can, the chairman should put his hand in his pocket. But I’m not convinced at his age he will be as dynamic as we currently play. At the moment despite lacking fitness the team plays very fluidly up top with lots of runs, dropping into holes, defending from the front. Has that ever been Defoe? Can he do that at 39? Do we have the quality in midfield to make up for him not doing that? If it’s a yes for all 3 then sign him up.

I don’t think he’ll be coming here, but there are certainly worse options to be a second striker for six months. It’s going to be difficult to attract anyone as good as Stewart because they’ll know they’re coming to play second fiddle and, once Broadhead is back, potentially third.
