F1 2022

Immediately after the final race he was reported as saying "F1 needed a new champion".
So blatantly not a neutral view in any way.
I agree with you but in a way Stewart is also correct about the need for a new champion.

People were fed up with Mercedes/Hamilton winning every year

The problem now is the new champion had it given to him rather than winning the bloody thing

That poses problems with the legitimacy of the 2021 title and also F1 credibility in general.

They shouldn't forget that last bit

i think its a peak into the british psyche, often the public prefer the plucky underdog to someone who's an actual winner... or more often there's just 'something' about them, in cycling froome has never been loved by the broad public, whereas wiggins was the superstar of british cycling... the 80s boxing was all about bruno, i don't think lennox lewis achieved that same broad appeal... in cricket jimmy anderson could walk down the street unnoticed to many, whereas botham on the other hand... and in f1, someone like mansell who was the the fella who seemed to be a terminal runner-up had mass appeal... i think back to when mclaren ran button & hamilton together and the love for the drivers favored jenson in my opinion (probably still does). that hamilton has won spoty twice, let alone once is a surprise to me... to some we know why he's not liked, but the broad appeal he will never have even though he will be the greatest british driver of all time.

he's the james corden of the f1 world... ;)
The British people (or at least tabloid media who tell the majority of the British people how to think) hate a winner. They do though love to push the cause of the plucky Brit until they have success and then delight nearly as much in trying to tear them down as they did building them up.
For a bit of fun - who'd you pick - can only pick 1 from each group to create your team
Raikkonen or Hakkinen or Rosberg
Riccardio or Webber or Button
Verstappen or Alonso or Vettel
Schumacher or Hamilton or Senna

Raikkonen, Webber, Alonso, Schumacher for me
Hakkinen, Ricciardo, Verstappen, Schumacher

Watching the tennis bollox happening in Australia (from the sidelines), makes me wonder what the chances are for the Australian GP running into similar issues with the F1 travelling circus?

I think you need to set your watch forward by 30 years marra.

On a serious note Todt is 76 soon and hasn’t been employed in a competitive F1 roll in well over a decade.
As a rule I don’t respond to the troll, however there is something in what he’s talking about.

Ferrari are rumoured to have approached Todt to return to the f1 team, however not as team principal. The role would be as a political advisor for the team in negotiating with the FIA & other teams over future rule (engine) changes. It would free binotto from the hassle and distraction and allow him to run the 2022 race track team…

It would be a bit like a Montezemolo role.

What happened to Binotto at the back end of last season. He stopped attending GPs?
I think that’s where the todt story comes from, binotto was working with the team for 22 and didn’t need the distraction of being at the track (think modern tech meant he could still communicate with the team 24/7).

I imagine the race weekend is a massive media distraction for the team principals.

Good points. However a huge part of the Team Principal role is their media delivery. They are as well known as the drivers and are the face of the parent company.

Think getting pelters for two years over a car that can’t win was a trade-off to getting his head down in marinello for the coming season… 2 seasons without a win is bad for him, 3 would probably be unacceptable and the rule changes could be a gift for him.
