Craft Beer

Might accidentally do dry January here. Got nothing concrete in the diary drinking wise, need to get rid of a stone or two, so might knock random drinks on the head. Feels good 😎

I always think that, then the matches 😎 hoping to get to Bolton too. Oh, and stopping over in Newcastle for that golden can winners thing on the 15th.

Probably going to be worse than Christmas 😂

We’ve got a family thing on the 29th, but we’ll have the kids so I’ll probably drive. Portsmouth is a potential to go out, at the minute I’ll dodge it. Apart from a potential footy night out where nobody will commit to a date I’ve got it in my own hands. Used to go 4-6 weeks without a drink pre-covid. The last couple of years has altered my habits. Trying to be a bit more sensible from now & shift this 2 clem.

Nothing big on til the 29th for me, going to try and stick to just a couple on Friday and Saturday nights. Christmas has really done me in!

Spent the last week in the North West so I've been caning the cask before going back to the shit served in London.

Track's new taproom in Manchester was probably the drinking highlight. Great place that and the cask Sonoma was outstanding. Not in their taproom, but I also had a pint of their Made in the Shade 5.6% porter on cask. Sublime beer that, full mouthfeel and huge roasty chocolately flavours.

Also popped into Pomona Island's taproom. Completely dead, weirdly. Everything they're knocking out at the minute seems to be excellent though. Mind the best beer I had there was an Abbeydale Funk Dungeon Flanders red. So good that, would have happily stayed there and drank it all night.

Drank too much over the last couple of weeks, but it's my birthday next weekend and I'm being nudged into an all dayer so I guess it's continuing for a while yet...

Did you have one of the pies at Track? I’ve bought them elsewhere and they’re very good.

Pomona’s brewery is a bit out the way really, it’s why I still haven’t been. The only people who drink in media city either live or work there (it’s pretty soulless) and even then it’s a 15-20 min walk to the brewery. Will try it at some point as I do have a mate living on the quays.

Edit: just realised you may have meant the taproom in town?!

Pomona don't have a taproom at the brewery as far as I can tell, it's a separate bar inside Escape to Freight Island.

No pie sadly! Kitchen was closed. They sounded great though. Do they rotate their food offering or are that lot permanent?

Yea I realised after I’d posted, totally forgot they even have a taproom there! I still haven’t been to Freight Island, can’t decide if it’s worth going or if it’s more for the Instagram crowd.

I’m pretty sure they’re permanent but could be wrong. Did you get to anywhere else?

We were there around 5, left at 7ish and it was mostly families going ice skating :) . Their bar is tucked around the corner out of the way so it didn't really feel like you were in the main space which was nice. We only had a quick look around the rest of the venue, it's quite impressive really, definitely the best one of these 'stack' setups I've seen.

The main reason for being in Manchester that day was to spend some time looking around Levenshulme as we're looking to move at some point (god knows when, it's difficult to pull the trigger!), so didn't get to too many places. Had a look in Overdraught down there which unfortunately had two beers that were lifting and needed sending back. Went back up to Track, then Budobust and home. I love bundo a lot.

Hope you manage to find somewhere. It’s worth being near Bundo for a vada pav!

Freight island was decent when I’ve been. I was similar to yourself, bit dubious about going but I think it’s quietened down since it first opened. Some canny food options on and quick as well which is good considering the size of the place. Good beers help massively.

If I just want some Pamona beers though, normally head to gas lamp. Lovely pub
