Sam Fender

Guaranteed that on the next album/tour he'll tone down the NUFC/I'm a mad as fuck Geordie craic. I just can't see how he will get to the "next level" if he doesn't to be honest. I think he's aware of that too.
I think he will play st James in the summer

This

Maine Road gig is one of their most legendary

I think those suddenly suggesting football and music aren’t at all linked are perhaps being a touch tribalistic (and wrong)

It can be, but in Oasis' case it was bang in the middle of the 90s lad culture zeitgeist, and pretty congruent with their overall image. City's nouveau rich turn even fitted Noel's evolution into a pompous Primrose Hill tory to a tee!

With Fender, he can support who he wants, but going for the politically- conscious leftie image while crowing about any success bought by Saudi Arabia and their tory cronies is not going to be a good look. If the Manics were knocking about in Lazio shirts or Stormzy was starting PSG chants at his gigs, they'd rightly expect to be pulled up on it.

I can’t defend him on this point at all. He’s in the wrong there, no doubt.

Managed to not listen to anything by him before but got played in a pub last week and I thought it was canny tbf, is a professional Geordie like

Some of the lyrics in that particular track are superb. I'm a bloke in his eary 50s and so much of that resonates with me and my upbringing. If people can't relate to, or understand where that kind of angst comes from, then I'd say they are lucky.

Absolutely true.

I really like his music, he's a good songwriter and has found himself a sound that is serving him well. He also appears to be a really funny lad judging by his videos when he's messing about. So yeah spot on.

My problem with him now is the same as every other mag, the fact that they're celebrating and lapping up this murderous regime all for the promise of potential success on a f***ing football pitch. It's made all the worse for Fender given he's been singing about kids in Gaza and the wrongs of the world.

I mean, the truth is he might just not give a fuck and his lyrics are just words in songs that he sings. But you lose all moral credibility when you're celebrating the Saudis.
