He many times did he bowl in the T20 world cup?

If he can play, he should. I just think they don't trust him not to break down.
Dunno.

The point was that he has it in him when required, since he changed his run up he's had a decent fitness record. And it doesn't get any more required than this.

I’m genuinely fuming

Rest him for what?!?!

The series could be over

Our best bowler from the first test bowling 95mph who gets out their best batsman with his pace

We have decided before the series who plays what games

It’s embarassing

You play your best team when the series is alive

Not for an imaginary scenario that will never happen

Silverwood is a fuckin idiot
Totally agree. All for not breaking players but rest Wood after this game? If we lose this test the series is done. Seems to be this expectation the pink ball will hoop around non-stop. Hope I’m totally wrong but where is the wicket taker in overs 40-80 there with them 4 seamers. Smith will be over the moon he’s not playing.

Crawley
Hameed
Malan
Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Buttler
Robinson
Wood
Broad
Anderson

That's what i would have picked for the pink ball test, Can't stand Burns and I don't like Pope either, he's a complete myth.

Yeah the current leadership team just isn't working, it's all a bit too safe and pre-planned - I suppose the only likely next captains are Stokes or Butler unless there is some Eoin Morgan type out there in county cricket.

the thing with captaincy at test level, it isnt rocket science

its just about basics, getting the right team on the pitch and having a leader who everyone respects who everyone will play for

root has a lot of it right, he is just getting the wrong advice

Sorry but i disagree with your morgan comparison about some maveric inventing field positons attacking etc

on Morgan himself, its the biggest misconception in cricket, he is the most data driven captain in world cricket, every single bowling change in the T20 world cup was pre-planned by him and the analysts, none of it was off the cuff.

Not having ago at you, it just shows you how big the ideas around his captaincy are, he isnt remotely implusive, he is like Root and Silverwood on speed in terms of pre-planning
Utterly predictable. Thrown all of our eggs in one basket and picked a team for each test before the series, which won't take into account form and fitness.

Lose this test, and Silverwood should be sacked.

dont always agree with you but I think I do on this basic point
Only thing I’d say on Woody is that he’s often struggled to play 2 T20 games back to back so you can see why it might be a risk for 2 tests.

he;s fit to play

I wish people would stop saying this

he is 100% fit to play

he has been dropped as they dont think he can play 3 games back to back, and are saving him for melbourne

what we are saying is, that test is utterly irrelevant if we go 2-0 down
It's not resting Wood, they obviously think he can't play two tests in a row when there's a week in between. I think we just have to accept that's the way his career is going to be, he's 32 in January, his body isn't suddenly going to become indestructible. As @Jack Torrance says he rarely even plays one day games back to back.

this is not why he has been dropped at all though

he can play this test 100% with no issue

they dont think he can play this AND then play Melbourne

its a completely different point

This also. The new Ramprakash.

Rather play Lawrence. He adds occasional offspin.
Not a bad shout, I still like Bairstow, I know he's far less effective in tests but at least you know he has the capability against other world class sides. The pink ball might be better for him aswell.

Never agreed with you more mate.

Massive Massive test simply pick you your best side

The last 4 words are key

And you not picking leach and me picking leach doesnt change that

as we are both picking our best side

England arent picking their best side as they are thinking about the melbourne test too

they didnt pick their best side at Brisbane as they were thinking about this test

again I might disagree with Silverwood about our best side, but for the first 3 tests of this series England will not have what they think is their best side on the pitch, thats f***ing mental mate.

Lawrence is much like Burns, will never ever score consistent runs at this level with that technique

he plays across the line every single ball

from the squad they picked Bairstow and Crawley should play and if the others score runs tomorrow I wont change my mind

remember that is from the squad they picked
It's the one that, on paper, you'd fancy would serve us well - but we've put all of our eggs into the d/n basket despite our record being shocking.

Yes, you'd hope that in the evening our bowlers will be able to get more movement - but the downside is that our batting is shit, and what is overlooked is that while our bowlers may get more movement, so will theirs.

Burns, Hameed, Malan v Cummings and Stark with the lights on and a pink ball.

its utterly flat and the ball goes soft immediately

you need pace and spin to win
I'd put Burns at 7.........Seat 7 on a flight back to the UK.

Sorry I know I have spammed this board, had a rare 3 pints with my mate

But England picked Broad, Anderson and Woakes for 4 out fo the 5 tests on the last ashes tour

we never came close to winning one

Robinson is a good addition but we just havent learnt our lesson

I am amazed anyone on here is backing the selection of these 3 together, we even struggle at the Oval and Lords to bowl sides out.

Why will it suddently work when it didnt work 4 years ago??

I’d have liked to have seen Roy be given another chance, especially in Aus when it doesn’t swing as much. He’s not going to be any worse than Burns, is he?
