HMRC - newcastle city centre

I find this absolute horse shit

Theres no need at all for it to be in the self proclaimed Capitol of the NE.

If it was that important why stop at Newcastle? Move it to a much bigger city to say Leeds, Manchester or Glasgow. Or an even Birmingham, the UK's 2nd largest. Why stop there, just put it in London.

Might aswell move DVLA out of Swansea and move it to Cardiff if it's all about government agencies being in Capitals
I fear you are missing the point of my post. Newcastle is not the self proclaimed capital of the north east it is recognised as the major city in the north east for the reasons I outlined in my initial post.

And your point about moving to another city. I have read that HMRC are trying to move away from London and into Regional sites, so those other cities you mention may have a big office already - I don’t know those details.

But Newcastle is clearly the regional “capital” to use your words as far as most people in this country are concerned.

Unofficial

Still no reason why it has to be in the unofficial self proclaimed made up capital

They got however many staff worked at the likes of Gilbridge, Shackleton House and the call centre next to the Royal Mail depot to move to Longbenton and Waterview.

I don’t see the advantage of moving to Newcastle when, for me, one of the aims of the civil service should be to generate employment and other support jobs (like cafes etc) and Sunderland has one of the highest rates of unemployment in the country.
Much smaller numbers though. Newcastle has far superior transport links.
As I mentioned she works shifts for a rail company, metro cannot get her to work for a 6:30am start or home on a late shift at 10:30pm
She does use it on the mid shift 8-4pm.
The traffic is normally very light at 6:30. How long does it take then?

She leaves the house at 5:30am but picks up a colleague in Seaburn. There is still plenty of traffic at the normal choke points.
Heworth/Tyne Bridge/Gosforth High Street.

Will this mean the stack in seaburn becomes the weekend party location that the Newcastle one currently is?
It already is

HMRC have been looking to move away from London for the last 20 years. The people they ask to look into it are all based in Parliament Street and have no intention of moving to the provinces

I think to look at this from a balanced view this move is a good move for Newcastle but bad for the areas of the north east losing jobs. I know people will say they’re being relocated but what usually happens is people take early retirement or leave the civil service in those areas rather than relocate. I think they call it natural wastage. The tories have always been a party of centralisation but they should understand in levelling up shouldn’t be about moving jobs from around the north east because those areas ultimately lose out. Wearside is losing out here along with peterlee and Stockton. The government should be looking to address this with unemployment high in these areas, but we’ll get crumbs as usual

The north east itself needs levelling up also!

“Levelling up” if the landlord is a Tory donor using a company based in a tax haven if this is to be believed.

Parking. If you look on google earth the office at Benton has massive car parks with thousands of spaces. The new one in the centre of Newcastle cannot have much parking. The staff are going to have to use public transport.
That’s part of the point of moving, carbon footprint and all that
So a massive new office paid for by the british public but we are not allowed in?

Sounds great!

As are you with "you're"
Allowed in? I very much doubt it, why would you want to get inside?
