How much per month do you need to live?

A relatively normal life?

Place to stay -
Electric -
Gas -
Water -
Internet -
Food -
Travel (car/bus fare) -

Is there anything I have missed?
I don't just mean to survive, I mean to live a basic but normal life

No idea tbh. That’s why I leave all that sort of stuff to my wife….who budgets everything through our joint bank account
So far we haven’t been doing too badly. We can afford to live a nice lifestyle and still maintain a fairly healthy bank account.
I'm in the same boat. My missus (no) asks me random questions like
How much is a gallon of milk?
How much is a loaf of bread?
I have no idea
Why would anyone want to do that? Sounds utterly shit. I’d rather not be alive to be honest.
There's a discussion at work about how people are paid pretty much the same as 25 years ago but the cost of living is 4x more

Oddly I get random questions like that as well. I have no idea on any of it. I go out to work and my pay goes into our account.
I know that we overpay on the mortgage and I know at a glance exactly what we have left to pay on it (which isn’t much and could be paid off in full now if we chose), how much we owe on our credit card which gets paid off in full every month, what’s in our savings account, what’s in our daily account, what’s in crypto, what’s in our superannuation account. Not being big headed I know that because of her budgeting we aren’t that badly off at all and we don’t have to worry at all about cash.

Thing is, if it was left to me then I would be living in a cardboard box underneath the Wear Bridge and I’d be gobbling off rent boys for baccy money by now and Mrs K would be nowhere to be seen.

I get paid £300 a week and as a single dad I struggle on but can just about pay the bills. I couldn’t imagine being paid 400-500 a week, id feel like a king. I know all that is a pittance to most people but it’s how I’ve lived and been paid for 25yrs now and I’m happy, I’ll never be a high roller.

I'd be the same. Without her i'd just eat take outs and drop my laundry at the launderette and just pay them. Then worry why I'm always skint

Mortgage $2900
Electric $280
Gas $75
Internet etc $170
Car insurance $130
HOA fees $130

No wonder I’m skint

Rent - $1650
Home Insurance - $70 (cant rent without it)
Hydro (electric) - $160
Water - $65
Internet - $110
Food - $600
Mobile - $105
Car/Fuel/Insurance - $600

That's depressing as fuck

A few things I could cut out:

I could live somewhere cheaper, but cheaper mean rougher and more insurance.
Less on food
Get a cheaper car
Get a sim only deal on a phone

That's what I think I need for a simple life

Internet and phone charges seem excessive

I reckon £1,400 a month.
That would be everything in moderation consisting of normal house rent and council tax, water, gas/eleccy and food plus car insurance and petrol, tax and upkeep. As well as internet and phone and all the other tid bits.

That would be basic living without anything left over for what would be deemed as a luxury.

In my head I'll work it out which may not be accurate.

Car cost to run each week would be thus and what I class as basics and essentials....ish..
£20 petrol. £80
£8 car insurance. £32
£6 Car tax £24
£10 upkeep. £40
£110 House rent and council tax. £440
£20 Gas £80
£30 Eleccy £120
£10 Water £40
£100 food/cleaning/toiletries...etc. £400
£10 phone (wife) ....£40
£5 stray cats.....£20
£5 bird food.....£20

Just to live basically this would amount to £334 a week or £1332 a month (not calendar)

Anything I've missed out could be classed as a sort of luxury including football matches/takeaways/ holiday...etc.

That’s the cheapest deal here. I cut everything I can back on the internet.

Yeah, the phone could be cheaper but I have the option that allows me 15gb data and I can use it all over Canada and America. I could easily drop it to around $80 if needed
What a nosey parker sort of question :D
Asks the question and then doesn't answer it himself ;)
It’s answered above.

I was involved in a conversation and it seems like most people are living to their means but don’t have much of a difference in lifestyles. It’s expensive just to be alive these days
Rent ¥4000
Drink the rest
That was my army life. £100 for the accommodation then nothing else mattered

Surely the stage of life you're at will have a big impact. 50+ and there's a fair chance your housing costs will be minimal if you're a home owner.

Now all the kids have nashed off that's another big overhead gone.

That’s a great point. Same as if you’re 19 you’d likely have a lot less outgoings.
