HMRC - newcastle city centre

Depends entirely on how you cut it up. Either way, point stands that it's a big city and the regions capital.
Behind the merged Southampton / Portsmouth area. No denying Newcastle is the region's capital. I don't think anyone has.

probably has the biggest GDP in the region I suspect.

For whatever reason it is identified as one the U.K’s 11 core cities outside London. Not sure if this is a self certified group or what.

Cut it up? You mean add it on.

The population of Newcastle is only slightly more than the City of Sunderland. In fact it is only recently that Newcastles population over took Sunderland

If your going to add Washington to Sunderland's stats then you might aswell add North / South Tyneside and Gateshead to the Tyneside number as Newcastle is the centre of all those places in terms of jobs, leisure and retail which at the end of the day is what this is about.

Ones much bigger than the other though.

Everywhere does it. Penshaw has a DH postcode. Peterlee has an SR postcode. It doesn’t suit his agenda though that fact.

Washington is part of the City of Sunderland. North and South Tyneside aswell as Gateshead is not part of the City of Newcastle. This is a fact.

That's the thing with Newcastle also trying to claim things that's not theirs

The thing is though is your using the Newcastle population. There's a separate urban area called Tyneside which Newcastle is the capital of which is that population and that's also the similar Sunderland stat your using.

The Sunderland (city) boundary ends at the A19 and the population was 177k in 2011. It gets confusing because they decided to name the urban area the same name which includes towns not part of Sunderland like Washington.

Another made up thing purely for the benefit of Newcastle. How very familiar

Washington is in Sunderland though?
Washington isn’t part of Sunderland neither are places like Shiney.

Yes they are. Whats going on here

I hate this self proclaimed regional capital bollocks - Leeds or Manchester would probably have a bigger claim if talking about a northern region. Anyway, capital of what ? London is the only capital I will recognise. Not getting involved in Sunderland being a big city -two bald men arguing over a comb but some on here would have us believe newcastle is like turin or milan.

I don’t see 10 miles as being very far mate but you do. That’s your lookout.
I live in Newcastle and support Sunderland so can see things from both sides. The hatred of Sunderland borders on obsession with most people in this city. At least the people of Sunderland can appreciate and use the good things about Newcastle without always bringing the rivalry into it. I’ve even had people at work from South Shields try and Claim that Roker is there’s as it’s not Sunderland until you cross the Wearmouth bridge ffs.

Youre absolutely spot on there mind. I live in Newcastle and the bitterness and obsession is ridiculous. Most have never even stepped foot in Sunderland and would never contemplate it.
