I was at the game where Robson was abused, away at Rotherham and he wasn't there. It was on MOTD and we were singing "Robson is a wanker" because he dropped KK. Bit different from spitting at him. I was also at the game v Wolves when only a couple of thousand stayed in the ground for a lap of honour. Again, a bit different from being spat at.

He wasn't hounded out, Shepherd sacked him. I was disappointed, some were pleased.
Haway man, you've been one of the rare decent mags on this thread, but Robson himself says that someone spat on him, plenty of reputable places have reported it, it happened.
This but everyone has pathetic *****.

For the record. @Professor Yaffle has always been scathing of takeover.
Aye I know he has, mentioned it in my next post, that's why I'm quite surprised that he's going down the "no one did anything" route on this one. When we mention Reid being a legend you sometimes get mags saying "had a pint thrown over him" and I've never seen any Sunderland fan who followed us then disputing it. As you say, we've all got knackers in the support. There's nowt to suggest it was widespread spitting, it wasn't an entire end gobbling over the man they'd later build a publicity seeking statue for, but to suggest it didn't happen sounds like the kind of rewriting of history that he's just accused a poster on here of

To be honest that sounds like a pretty shit set of working conditions.
If they're kind of standard across most clubs they're all taking the piss out of their employees.
I think all clubs play on the fact that fans work there, I loved it for the first few years, being part of the IT team we had all area access on matchdays, so spending time around the training ground, and ground, especially match days around the tunnel, players lounge, media and press suite was intriguing, and the few perks of tickets (home and away), signed shirts (some match worn), balls etc, meeting and spending time getting to know managers like Robson, Keegan etc. and both my sons have been mascots (one of them also for an England game), press confernces for new managers or players, mean I have great memories....

On the negative side the extra days were shite, bank holidays were a nightmare if games fell on the days, Christmas was working all the way through, including either boxing day or NYD, and then the place just becomes a place of work, even the games I wasn't working and just going to the match with my mates felt like I was back at work, I fell out of love with the match day experience, and considering I left in 2009, I still feel the same way....

I wouldn't change it, great time and something not many get the chance to do....

Aye, to be fair there are some incidents which didn't happen which rival fans like to use (I've lost count of the number of times I've heard about the "Sunderland seat shitter" even though the police confirmed he didn't actually shit on a seat), but both the spitting at Robson and the pint throwing at Reid did happen. But like I say, it's one or two absolute arseholes and every club has them.

I don't know how to embed images but Simon Barnes says he was spat on -

The great history rewriters. But let us name the training ground after him.

I was in attendance when Sunderland supporters being marched up from Central were singing songs about Robson being "nearly dead" A canny few of them as well. I wouldn't use that as a stick to beat Sunderland supporters with though. As has been pointed out elsewhere, every club has that element and it's absolutely shameful.

Perhaps they did.. But Sunderland haven't got a statue of Robson and Sunderland fans are not asking for the new training ground to be named after him. You need to drop it mate as many of your fellow fans are fickle idiots.

I don't dispute they are. There's no perhaps about it by the way, I saw and heard it myself.
Didn't they sack Robson because he had a stand-off with Kieron Dyer about where he was playing? And the board took Dyer's side?
Seems like they should have built a statue to Dyer outside instead.
Most of the support got on Dyer's back in that dispute. I recall him being booed when he came on as sub against Chelsea. He proceeded to play like his pet lip was tripping him over.

Plucked up the courage to watch this clownfest. Dear Christ.
Wouldn't reach a room temperature IQ if you clonked all of their heads together.
Should be shared widely though - people need to see how the silly wazzocks are going on.
Same here, where are they? Can't work out if it's Benidorm or Blackpool?
