Learning the guitar

I wrapped it round the metal peg before threading it thru the hole so have done it wrong! Sounds ok tho, do I undo it and redo it again?
If it’s not slipping just leave it. Next time, the string goes through the hole first then wind the slack on slowly

I hate changing strings and I’ve done it thousands of times. You are not alone.

watch videos on YouTube to see the technique.

There a youtube video from Taylor guitars on restringing acoustics which is very good, a lot of the videos show a tie off technique which I personally don't like but the Taylor one doesn't :-

And I am sure Auden guitars @Hank Silver also had a good video online but I cannot for the life of me find it.

I wouldn't like doing that, cutting before would mess with my head.

Not many people have a bench or table and a soft cuddly environment to re-string on, the closest in a house is on the carpet or settee.

I tend to lie mine on the the floor with a cushion off the settee for the neck like. When restringing I usually find it easier to stand the guitar up. This stands you in good stead for a mid-song restring when you have a snappage during a gig.

I think I'm with you on the pre-cut like. That's an interesting vid like - I've always put a 'lock' in.

I used to use 8s on my Strat and broke strings regularly so had to go up to 9s that I have used for years without issue.

I am quite a heavy player having learnt on acoustic so I hit the strings quite hard.

I do a tuck thing on my guitars that kinda winds the string over the first wrap. Works well but I would love a guitar tech and never have to restring another guitar.

I don’t like big thick wires as I’m a sensitive soul.

This is how I've been doing it of late - the little wrap around the post. I use to just pull the string round, underneath and over, which is how I learnt to do it in the first place and did so for years, but I thought this one gave a bit of a neater finish.

I think I might try the Taylor method next time.
I always only do a string at a time anarl so you're not messing with the tension and loosening the bridge up. If I was to take all the strings off me Les Paul the bridge would just come off.

I used to do the same and cut after and try all sorts of lock ties and then tried this method and found it much better for me so stuck with it. Now restringing a Floyd Rose equipped guitar that is a nightmare

Looks a piece of piss.

Classical guitars. Now they're fun.

Enlighten me though - a pinless bridge Gretsch?
The bridge is held in place by the pressure of the strings. People often use tape or rosin to “glue” the bridge into position or you can actually pin them using small screws.

I’m not a Gretsch player - i do have a Gretsch acoustic (Jim Dandy)but no electrics.

Had my eye on a Jim Dandy series Gretsch parlour guitar actually but I think I might go for a Vintage Statesboro one.

Mines the dark sunburst one. Nice. No electrics small body. Sound ok considering it’s so small. The tuners are not the best on mine. Cheap guitar though and good noodle about on the settee given it’s small body.

Never seen that Vintage one
