Racism at Yorkshire CCC

As said two wrongs don’t make a right, he is just wanting people to apologise but it’s gone further.

he will have been aware of his views and thoughts he should be punished accordingly like all involved.

just shows how bad cricket actually is in Yorkshire and how poor the ecb are

but I think now his credibility when this is taken further could cast some doubt due to his comments.

I’m not saying I don’t believe him before people jump on me but he hasn’t done himself any favours here.

I think it’s important to not lose sight of the original issue here - a huge racist problem.

I know I’m perhaps guilty of it with passing on comments made by people who know Rafiq, but we can’t allow the abuse he (and others) suffered to be swatted away because Rafiq has made comments himself.

Just because you may have made racist comments yourself, or people don’t you personally, means that you deserve the years of abuse we’ve seen Rafiq suffer. Similarly, being racially abused yourself doesn’t give anyone the right to be racist, and doesn’t mean people can’t take a personal dislike to you for your behaviour.

I sincerely hope that these comments made by Rafiq 10 year ago which have come to light don’t invite a pile on which gives those who have abused him (and others) a get out of jail free card.

2 wrongs certainly don’t make a right

Looks like peo

Spot on! Dealing with the issues that face English cricket are far more important than taking sides on the Rafiq affair.

I wasn't aware Rafiq was banned back in 2010 for calling an official a "wanker" on social media
It is mentioned in his witness statement.

“By way of example, after the under 19 series in 2011, I was disciplined and suspended for a month. I had been out with the whole team one night, including my fellow teammate, Atif Sheikh. When we got back to the hotel, Atif, who had been drinking, got rowdy with the hotel staff, but I diffused the situation and sent Atif to bed. The next day, John Abraham and Andy Burril, the coach and manager, sent me home without any investigation into the incident. I was completely innocent, but the club did nothing to defend me or look into the matter, and just presumed that I was in the wrong. Out of anger over the injustice of the situation, I sent a tweet, which I accept with hindsight was not the right thing to do. As a consequence, I was disciplined and fined by the ECB and banned from playing cricket for a month. YCCC also suspended me for a month.”

Absolutely. Everyone has to pick a side these days instead of work together to improve things.
I mean, if something like a global pandemic can cause people to take extreme sides...
They are loving it on twitter and some on here it seems..

Pretty sure theres a picture floating about social media of azeem in a t shirt labelled "p**i power".

Or are asians allowed to say it?

So confusing all of this

I’ve seen the photo, and it doesn’t look like Rafiq to me. Could be wrong mind
Surely an apology from vaughany and co.squashes this 🤷‍♂️

Vaughan has had a couple of weeks to apologise now and so far hasn’t. An apology now squashes nothing in my eyes

Paid or not the guy is exposed as a hypocrite, which probably puts cricket in an even worse position than it was before
I don’t think there’s anything hypocritical about making a complaint about day in, day out systematic racial abuse you are facing in the workplace because you have sent a racist message once when you were a teenager. He has damaged his credibility though and it’s hard to see how he can be a leading face in driving racism out of cricket.
