It's a difficult one. I was joking the other day at work about not being able to pronounce a Sri Lankan colleague's surname (joking with them). It was a joke at my own expense but I did second guess myself afterwards wondering if I'd inadvertently crossed a line. You'd hope they would feel comfortable enough to say but you don't know.

Mind, this is really not what this situation with Rafiq is about...it's not just well meaning people accidentally overstepping the mark during a bit of crack here and there. But it's certainly worth reflecting on unwitting things you might do.

I always remember when Lyth broke into the Test side a Sky feature about them that I saw where Root was talking about him and he said something along the lines of ‘he’s quite funny for a man with no teeth’, or words to that effect. It struck me as a slightly odd, quite personal and a fairly unpleasant thing to say, particularly in an interview on national tv and about a close county and now international teammate who was just finding their way in the game. It stuck with me the way some random things do.

Now it’s probably nothing, a throw away line and to most, merely banter, and I’d probably agree with that. I know I’ve said and done worse to people close to me. But given what’s come to light, and your remark about Lyth, it’s made me think about it again and it seems to be another example of the somewhat juvenile & immature behaviour that they dealt out to one another. In summary, I’d agree with your presumption that he’s likely to have been close to the centre of it.

Shame like, I enjoy it more when he’s on.

I’d be amazed if he survives, it seems like they have been phasing him out for a while now, only doing northern Tests and working from home during the SL tour.

He will be the first of many to pay the price for this. No chance sky can keep him on with the way they have pushed Black Lives Matter so strongly.

Sky are in a fortuitous position by not having any England cricket for a while.

Hopefully others aren't involved as I like most of the cricket presenters but it's a good chance for sky to do a thorough investigation

Racist language was rife on BBc and ITV programs in the last decades of the 20th century, and must have been a major factor in establishing words such as P@@@ into the national vocabulary. Till Death Us Do Depart used to get viewing figures of over 20 million! Not surprised that people of a certain age still use it, but that is no excuse for modern day sportsmen to use it.

I'm not on twitter ( neither is he after one of his frequent flounces by all accounts ;)) and don't know what other social media platforms he uses.

Not an Agnew fan by any means and certainly think he will defend the likes of Vaughan to the hilt.

Their ‘flagship’ podcast is/was Tuffers and Vaughan and it’s been taken off the air indefinitely.

Regarding the Beeb in general, I DO expect they’ll put something together in the coming days/weeks as things become clearer - they’ve done excellent programmes on these sorts of issues before in fairness. Their coverage of the NFL and the Colin Kaepernick situation was brilliant.

Which itself is a good indication of why things like BLM lead to change.

However insincere corporate pushing of these messages are, they create tension which often leads to change, no matter how reluctant the organisation might be
