Racism at Yorkshire CCC

Yeah he was a quality player. Or should I say highly effective player. Always said it.

He is on record talking to rafiq saying he suspects he didnt get a chance at his home county YCCC due to racism hence came here.
Yes nowhere near at Yorkshire which is puzzling. It was Cook who spotted him and brought him to Durham. Surpring we haven't made more of that source of cricketers in Yorkshire.

Arguably everyone in the team at that point deserves criticism because if you weren’t partaking you were silent. It is ridiculous to suggest you didn’t hear any comments based on todays hearing.

People on here attaching themselves to the comments related to Vaughn because they don’t like him. Whilst Root seems to be getting a pass for what is essentially turning a blind eye to arguably abhorrent behaviour.

I understand Vaughn had allegedly made comments and Root had not, but to deny all knowledge is unbelievable considering his tenure at the club.

Also in relation to people not wanting to stand up and defend people because they would have been standing up to the likes of Vaughn, England captain, is repugnant. Any decent individual puts a stop to issues in the workplace whether it be racism, bullying or whatever.

I’ve done it myself and if ordinary folk in ordinary work can hold people accountable to fairly basic standards of decency then so should sportsman in a position of privilege.

Cricket has always been elitist, so unfortunately it is no surprised that Yorkshire has be found to be complicit in allowing this to go on. Yorkshire in particular has always had an insular approach, just look at how long they wouldn't allow anyone not from the area to play for them.
Has he said why he left Yorkshire and returned two years later?
Financial. Had been with derbyshire but they couldnt afford to offer him a contract, so took yorkshires offer up

There seems to be a lot of racism, bullying and general shit banter (sledging) in cricket. Kevin Pietersen was being bullied by fellow England players, just passed as banter because he was unpopular.

Yes he did. He had suffered a lot first time around. Derbyshire where he went on loan were great with him but couldn't afford to offer him a contract. Yorkshire contacted him again - Gillespie and Lees were coach and captain who were fantastic people suggesting a change of culture - he also needed to earn to put food on the table. It wasn't until Ballance became captain that the problems occurred and by which time Rafiq himself was much more aware of what racism was.

Bresnan has always come across as not the brightest tool in the box mind.
Yeah I posted earlier in this thread a link to an Aussie cricket podcast he was on two weeks back, The Grade Cricketer, and he came across thick as mince. He was trying to have "banter" with the hosts but it was so shit/ they were running rings around him to the extent that it was clearly awkward for the hosts

Is this why they made Ali test vice captain vs India?
They are capable of such cynicism, tbh wouldn't surprise me. He is a county captain though and quite a successful one in white ball terms, so he'd have been one of the more legitimate candidates anyway. Buttler was away wasn't he?

Rafiq suggests everyone in the England dressing room knew about the Hales/Ballance/Kevin stuff, I’d guess Morgan is included in that
Yes and I think the whole game seems to be incriminated in not doing or standing up to it/calling it out.

The problem for Root is more specific though: he has actively denied seeing it on the public record and, as it was his flatmate who was one of the worst offenders, that isn't credible. He has lied.

Sins of omission, or not standing up to something are not as bad as lying on record. To protect his mate, presumably.

He’s a massive knob Kevin and i’d take evens that he too has been guilty at various points of cancelable goings on.

Root is on record as saying he denied seeing anything. I think that's a problem, if it turns out its a lie. Have to be careful not to libel him, its only an allegation. But I know what sounds credible to me...

The other point on this is re: Morgan is... where is Hales now? Who kicked him out of the England dressing room? Conversely, who brought Gary Ballance BACK IN to the test one? It wasn't Root, surely too long ago, but that has to be a questionable decision...

Aye roots stand on the matter is looking very suspect.

When the names Gale, Ballance,Bresnan,Brooks were all players he played a lot with for Yorkshire.

Surprised Bairstow hasn't been dragged into this to. Not to say he's done anything but he shared the dressing room with all of these guys more so than Root as in and out of England team
