Drinking in Sunderland City Centre - restored

Works in London which people say is didhier than the NE (I disagree FWIW for casual ASB / Drunken assaults) ...

Think it would work with more visible security (which I appreciate adds cost but imho would also increase passenger uptake). They should add more personnel on particularly the North shields to Byker route even through the day rather than swamp the 3 Newcastle City centre stations with people trying to catch fare dodgers. Just my opinion nexus!!
Aye I agree. Tube feels safer than the metro despite there being alot of odd characters on the tube.

Barriers pretty much why imo. Keeps the scroats from using it since they have to pay.

It's like the opposite to up here where buses down there are bad similar to our Metro since it's easy to fare jump.

Anyone have any idea what that Craig’s Sports Bar is like beside Victors and Halo? We fancy a change of scenery before the match on Saturday with it being a cup match and with the Manchester derby being the early kick off fancy finding somewhere to watch it. Our usual haunt of Fitzies is well short of teles and unless you’re in very early all the tables in front of the teles are gone. I know there’s Streetbar which is also a sports bar just further down but I’ve been in there once before.

Another good thing about Craig's Sports bar is that it's capable of showing eight different sports channels at the same time.

What’s the Beehive like? Is it new owners or have they just rebranded the place?

Went into Flanagans once, excited cos I love Guinness and really enjoy authentic Irish Bars, and it was shite. The barman, who I assumed was the manager, had a shocking attitude and was the main reason I never went back in.

Changed its name so many times over the years Beehive, Huxters, Savannah, The Crowtree, Flanagans and back to the Beehive are the ones I remember. All shite.

New owners and management I'd say. Stopped in for a pint whilst waiting for the bus about a week ago. Seemed busy enough, Borough/Joseph's type crowd. Hopefully that spot's 50,000th owner can break the curse.

There hasn't been a Black Eye Friday post for well.....nearly a year 🤣
I normally start it mid December mate 😀

Still looks shite

Cheap bog standard pints?
Aye. Would be surprised if there's anything that costs more than three quid but then nothing there really should. Standard fare on draught for that sort of place. Slightly better than watching drunks vomit on their shoes at the bus stop is the best review I can give it.

I see the Dun Cow are putting a Comedy Club on again.
The price of the tickets last time were a joke
Fea

Same owners as The Borough.

Flanagans was never an authentic Irish bar, it was supposed to be.. Irish couple bought it out literally weeks before COVID so you can imagine how much he lost from that, decided to cut his losses and sold it on to another lad where it turned into an absolute dump, changed hands again to the lad who has The Borough.

He'll not keep that open for that long either. 1 of them places like where The Chemist/used to Rush will shut down every 3 months.

May I ask how you know an Irish couple bought the place and when exactly?

I thought the Borough is owned by Craft Union and the Beehive owned by Admiral Taverns.

Unless one of them has changed pub companies?

Admiral Taverns might have had Flanagan's when it first opened but it changed hands at least twice since then. Who would have thought trying to turn a pub in Sunderland, least of all on that corner, into a replica of The Temple Bar would turn out in hindsight to be a daft idea?

It was owned by a Veil Grove Limited in the months leading up to lockdown and even they had two installments of management and staff, having allowed the first lot to fuck them by sinking hundreds of pounds of free booze a night for the staff and their mates, general neglect, etc. They brought in someone else to build the place up but even still it was dying on it's arse and lockdown will have done them a favour. There's no way they still have it. Skint and probably sold to the first person who took an interest.

Well looks like the echo have got it wrong as they say it's a Admiral Taverns pub

No reason to think they'd be wrong. Appears Admiral Taverns had in as Flanagans, sold it, and have now bought it back, probably at a profit given the mismanagement in between.

Fair play to them.

I see.

The Beehive look like they are going for the live music scene reading the posters on their windows.
