Fox Hunting

I have never shot anything but have fished all my life.
I never shot until I moved to Cornwall. My dad was a fisherman when were were kids and grew up with something that was once alive in the bath or the sink nearly all the time. I fished as a youngun and again since I moved her 20 yrs ago. I said on another thread that nearly all meat or fish I eat I have seen alive and that includes beef, pork and lamb.

They don’t care what the lambs, piglets, chickens or ducks think and it’s my role in animal husbandry to protect them
What do you think of the argument that the animal husbandry wouldn’t be necessary if we didn’t use so much land for the agendas of a very small number of people? You sound like you’ve got a lot of experience so would be interested to hear your thoughts.

In many cases, increasing the land used is increasing the welfare but actually makes more work than in intensive units.
im not sure what agendas you are referring to however.
Maybe let the foxes cull the rabbits. Nature has a way of keeping everything in balance, humans do not.
Catching a rabbit is knacky compared to a lamb.
ive watched a fox stalk a rabbit for ages for the rabbit to just pop underground leaving the fox licking in gnads.
I know. You don't see many of them in the vegetarian line at Waitrose.
Perhaps these foxes need re education.
One of the reasons they are thriving is on the back of our rubbish
Bins , take away food, rubbish tips all help the species in a false environment in the way gulls thrive in our cities.
Mebbies we need to train the foxes to manage the gull population? I bet they couldn’t karate chop one in half

King of Spain used to love the shoot at lambton.
Which shoot was that? On the Northumberland estate up near Wooler the shoots only happened when the estate was leased out to some rich millionaire for a few years at a time. Ned Lambton was never keen on blood sports. His father Anthony, the disgraced MP who fled to Tuscany, didn’t give a monkeys about what happened on his estates back in The UK.

Ower lass wants a Weimaraner.
I got in touch with the Weimaraner “society “ on Facebook and asked if anyone still uses the breed as a working dog as opposed to how they look. The bloke sent me a message as he didn’t want to get tangled up because of stuff like this thread and he works his in the field and has bred a few field champions.
It’s on the back burner for a while but I fancy a spaniel if she gets a Weimaraner and then I can work them both

I don’t buy into the “fish feel no pain” bit. They wouldn’t fight like mad if it didn’t hurt.
I do sea fishing too and it’s always the intention of eating what I set out to catch
When I got with the ex she had a Weimaraner, he was a right handful but she spoiled him. She doesn’t understand that treating a dog as a human is cruel. But I bet they make a good worker. Bags of energy.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I mean the fact that so much of the land is set aside for habitats which benefit a small group of species (eg moorlands for grouse) which only serves the agendas of those who want to hunt the grouse (eg those that own the land).

Lambton estate. Used to helicopter in (not from spain) so did Naomi Campbell. Now the latter I was told by a beater who’s a raging alcy but the king of Spain was common knowledge. Not happening now though. Apparently the twice a year shoot attract a lot of yanks. I imagine it must have been like a turkey shoot.

Yeah, but which Lambton Estate, is what I meant? The one at Chester-le-Street / Harraton, Weardale or Northumberland?

I’m assuming chester-le-street. Mind I’m flummoxed now. I’m assuming because the lad beat at chester-le-st so that’s where it was but not to say they used the same lads at all the shoots. I will ask the question and report back.
Will have been Chester le Street, the head keeper in the early 1980's was George Wilson.

Although the grouse take up a lot their habitat is also suited to lots of other species
Deer, hares and rodents are well accommodated but the habitat is crafted for the grouse
I’ve been beating on the pheasant shoots and much of the land is farmed for other crops with the pheasants also there. Crops don’t do well for obvious reasons but grassland and timber accommodates the pheasants aswell as the other wildlife. I saw my first hare about 5 yrs ago when beating.
If a farmer can’t make money from the land then that land will not be managed to its best and one way of making it work is selling the game rights. Many of land owners are assets rich but cash poor and when people talk of toffs, this is the people that they talk off. The land and property is costly but unless you make it work, your kids will likely qualify for free school meals as many do.
Even with top subsidies, a farm still costs a small fortune to keep it looking good and being “ healthy and diverse “

I suppose the main issue is the need to make money off the land. I would personally like to see it taken back under public ownership and people employed to take care of it and create a variety of habitats. Might be wishful thinking though.

Save the foxes and all the rest of the animals we're currently driving to extinction through loss of habitat and pesticides in the food chain, if people want something to hunt why not let them rip murderers, rapists and paedos to bits with a pack of dogs, anyone who complains about their human rights can be put on the list aswell, bloody do gooders have brought this country to it's knees and made it a paradise for criminals and a nightmare for normal decent law abiding folks😠

The Director of the Master of Foxhounds Association has been found guilty of advising hunts how to get around trail hunting and hunt real foxes.

What are your thoughts on this?

I’m the wrong class for fox hunting and I live in a town so I have no knowledge or experience of this practice.
Anyone who kills and tortures an animal for fun is sick in the head.

Fox hunting like slavery, racism and the royal family should be of a bygone era.
