Spiritualist Medium

Actually, my Mum used to help run the Sunderland Spiritualist Church in Grange Terrace off Stockton Road.
You really shouldn't "diss" stuff you're not willing to think about or even try to understand.
It's free to go to and attend... nobody pushing anything at you.... I went a few times.
To many folks it gives a lot of comfort in often very difficult times... and as I said, they don't charge anything!
Sometimes it's better to have an open mind about some of this stuff..... and it's very different to the folks you'd call "fortune tellers" etc.... which is maybe what the OP was getting after....

Sure. It was just an observation. We all must make our own choices and decisions.

Imagine though how different the world would be without people falling for psychics and religion. On the other hand there would be fewer ghost stories and such like.
I'm not religious but it's not sensible down to earth mentality that's brought us the great buildings, paintings, scriptures ,civilisations etc it's Man's connection to something we can't touch
I think Tonto was medium but always think of Robin as a small. Tonto was good like
I always remember that dwarf palm reader who escaped from Durham jail.

My Gran’s a spiritualist. She’s nearly 90 now. She took services etc a spiritualist churchs for years. She had a very good reputation. She could have made a fortune over the years and was offered big money to go down london and do it but didn’t. Some people don’t believe in it obviously and i’m not sure what I believe to be honest. There will be lots of people out there that rip people off no doubt about it but my gran didn’t. She often didn’t charge people if she thought people were in a bad way and she could help them by seeing them , she spent hours of her time . I’ve never been to see one and i get why some people are so negative about them but my gran wasn’t in it for money. She’s had all sorts of people go and see her, bikers, football hooligans etc it’s not all old ladies. She doesn’t just give generic details either. She told me she said to the hooligan ‘ your dad was your anchor in life’ and tears started to role down his face and he said ‘ my dad had a tattoo of an anchor on his arm’ She could also write pages if someone gave her a old family photo etc tell them details about the people. I’m not here to try and tell anyone what to believe in but everyone saying they are all scum etc are maybe a bit wide of the mark. Don’t judge everyone the same.

That is old argument though.

Undoubtedly there were lots of buildings, art works and music that were created but inspired by religion. Artists need commissions and the money usually came from The Church. One can be in awe of the natural wonders of the universe and planet, more so in fact, without the need for the supernatural stuff.

If some society for Science and Reason existed back then and paid the bills instead of The Church then who knows what JS Bach’s “Gravity Passion”, Berlioz’s “L’Enfance d’Evolution” or da Vinci’s “The Last MacDonalds after The Solvay Conference” would have been like.

Indeed Mendelssohn and Smetana both wrote lovely pieces about natural features with no religious overtones.

"If some society "
But there wasn't ,it was more the norm than it is now .
It was the foundations of most society's
It created massive seats of learning
You could argue it formed the means to question it's very self
Of course the natural world is inspiring to everyone too buto even know knowing what we do ,the unknown fascinates us more

There is plenty of unknown in the real world. The superficial, manipulative and money-making supernatural layer of organised religion is unnecessary. We’ve seen on this thread how easy it is to find gullible people. Religions exploit that fact.

You're going off the point
History stands ,good and bad
I think it would be a dull cultural landscape thus far
Who knows what the next millennium will produce in a God less existence

My divorced mate always had his kids on a Wednesday night during the week. One week his ex asked them if he could have them on the Thursday instead as she had a psychic coming round for her and the lasses. He had to decline because he was on a late shift at work. When his ex said "so I'll have to cancel then? ". His reply of "if she's any good surely she will know already" didn't go down too well
