You wouldn't get much change from 200m plus 6 x 5 year deals on 250k p/w = 390m!

That is the scale of things. As Merson says it is not Blackburn from 25 years ago.
 
I've been playing the new FIFA (the Saudis have shares in EA so that makes me a hypocrite). Took over SAFC with KLD as owner.

21/22 - Champions & EFL Trophy
22/23 - 2nd in the Championship
23/24 - 7th and into the Conference League
ATM we are 5th in November 2024.

Happy days are on the way lads!!!!
 
Today In Focus pod from Guardian has David Conn on plus some sentimental cringe Mag who boycotted the Ashley years but thinks "there's nothing we can do" about their new owner's worse crimes! Actually it's all a bit lame. I want a journo to ask a Mag thickie why he thinks the story of Dr Faustus doesn't apply to them? The idea of selling your soul to the devil for power is as old as the hills yet the Mags are convinced it won't backfire on them and they'll buck the trend .

They are brilliant at framing the narrative to how they have suffered and deserve succes. Yes, they were relegated twice under Ashley, but spent loads and came straight back up.

Empathy is not there thing, but clubs have gone bust, lost their stadiums, back to back relegations, so I don't think treading water in the premier league qualifies as dark days.

Could be dark days when you believe ( not aspire to but believe ) you should be winning the PL and competing in, if not winning the champions league on the strength of absolutely nothing. They make the hubcap collectors look humble and restrained by comparison. The roof strippers are big heeds but at least they’ve won plenty. The tea towel Taliban have won jack shit since years before I was born.

Well that’s what he’s saying is it not. You can’t separate issues like this when it suits. If he isn’t then he needs to choose his words more carefully. And do his homework. If he thinks they are scapegoats he must have missed the bit where their fans vigorously campaigned for this takeover. He could have said the takeover was wrong because, and listed all the things the Saudi regime has done and still does, then called the fans (in his opinion) scapegoats if he’d wanted to. He’d be wrong on the scapegoat thing, but still. But he didn’t do that. I used to think he had a bit about him, but now I think he’s either thick, lazy, spineless, or a hypocrite, or all three.

Canny, and I know he pointed it out but I don’t think the owners or any prospective manager understand how demanding their fans are. If they don’t spend as much as they’re allowed immediately = ructions. If they aren’t battling it out at the top of the table within two maximum three seasons = ructions. They’ll be expected to cook the books so they can spend more like wot city did, the fact that that was years ago and things change won’t matter to the majority of them, they’re too thick and entitled to figure it out.
