Not quite. The way deaths are coded mean that they also include pneumonia which can be caused by various bacteria, viruses and fungus.2018 / 19 flu deaths averaged 150 daily, so present numbers no worse than a bad flu year.
Yup, from the link that was provided, these are the deaths for flu.Not quite. The way deaths are coded mean that they also include pneumonia which can be caused by various bacteria, viruses and fungus.
Prior to Covid viruses were estimated to account for about a third of the deaths of pneumonia and influenza is one of many different viruses that can cause it.
Date | Total mortality | England | Wales | England and Wales | Resident outside England and Wales |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
2018 | 1,598 | 1,523 | 73 | 1,596 | 2 |
2019 | 1,223 | 1,160 | 53 | 1,213 | 10 |
One thing we certainly know is large parts of the popularion weren't tested daily for flu infection, so certainly none of this within 28 days business was going on.Not quite. The way deaths are coded mean that they also include pneumonia which can be caused by various bacteria, viruses and fungus.

I appoint you Covid 19 moderator... can understand you like, plus you don't swear at meNot quite. The way deaths are coded mean that they also include pneumonia which can be caused by various bacteria, viruses and fungus.

You’ve spelled “f***ing idiot” wrong marra.I find it more weird that you’re so worried about the awful virus and choose not to get vaccinated because you’re a martyr
And again. You are. You’re worried about the virus (rightly), but won’t take a vaccine because it’s not 100% effective, despite it helping
you’re the very definition of martyr
I don't think Covd will overwhelm the NHS, and thats the trigger. My worry is that if the NHS are overwhelmed by flu, can the lockdown laws be applied? It would take a dramatic change for the country to lockdown again now I reckon. You just have to look at the other problems we have going on to see that not one business would be in favour of it.
Local lock downs in December and they'll bring in the vaccine passport. It would take a dramatic change for the country to lockdown again now I reckon. You just have to look at the other problems we have going on to see that not one business would be in favour of it.
I agree. It's been mentioned on another thread.I do find it a bit worrying when you compare how we're doing compared to other countries.

Difficult to understand how we seem to be so vastly different to the rest of Europe in particular. I can see how the continued wearing of masks can have some effect, but not 15-20 times different.
They are still outdoors across Europe. We have been indoors a good month now, however as the graph above shows, we had more cases at the height of Summer than we have nowI posted about this on another thread a few weeks ago about my observations having been to Greece and Italy this summer about the possible reasons for difference and the gist of it was: 1) better warmer (and reliable) summer weather in Europe compared to here means lots more outdoor living - even bars and restaurants are nearly all wide open frontages, pavement settings or whatever so you’ve got good outdoor ventilation. Here it’s average at best and we don’t have that outdoor culture as a result. 2) Mask wearing was pretty much universal in all indoor settings and on public transport, even in Venice on the water taxis and boats where you’re technically outdoors everyone wore them.
Not fact or scientific by any means, but just my observation and comparisons.
It's that level of discrepancy that I struggle to get my head around.45,000 daily cases yesterday in the UK compared to 1,923 in the whole of Spain.
That's the result of the different approach both governments have taken.
I imagine the UK was happy with restrictions to end but did it anticipate to have such high numbers in daily cases?

Can a largely outdoor-based social scene and continued mask-wearing in shops, on public transport, really have that kind of overall effect? It's more than 20 times better than the UK!
