Fausto today.

£6 a bagel and nearly £4 for a flat white sized latte, rip off in there man

A decent, healthy city needs places like this, and places like sues, and places of all differing quality and price.

Faustos and Sues aren't even competitors, they are in completely different markets and are both successful

Amazing how many people in Sunderland actively pursue putting the place down

I was unaware of all the shenanigans until recently and honestly don't know the ins and outs, so putting that to one side I did go in there a few weeks ago for pizza (I think they do that once a week) and it was a pleasant enough experience (and unusually a pizza with anchovies and capers was available...the king of pizza toppings IMO). I don't recall it being excessively expensive and looking on their website the coffee and other drinks seem no more expensive than the global chain places that are always rammed with folk. I had a nice enough can of locally brewed beer (can't remember what) to go with the pizza.

I can understand people being put off by it trying to be oh so painfully hip but as said above, it's good to have a variety of places that find a niche and some success - it would be boring if we just had a continuum of greasy spoons and towny pubs.

Not putting it down, it’s a cracking little place, but far too overpriced.

I think Fausto believe they are after their comments about Sue's during that carry on last year.
So it's ok for them to put other businesses down, but not for others to do the same to them?

I think it is fair to say that I am one of the board's most passionate defenders and promoters of businesses and endeavours in the city.
I agree that the city needs places of differing quality and price, catering for all needs and tastes. I love a greasy spoon as much as I love fine dining.
I won't set foot in Faustos again, and don't believe we need employers like that.
Everybody's free to make their own choices, but I think people putting the place down have very valid reasons.

what happened like?

i won't defend the lass who owns it like, i know of her through a few of my mates that know her and she sounds like a right battle-axe. not my type of person at all. but i'd imagine there are thousands of businsses that we all use every day that are owned and ran by utter bastards. probably half the reason that so many of them are 'successful' in terms of wealth accumulation

i wouldn't swap with them like, having very few actual friends, no people skills, no empathy or ability to enjoy the smaller things in life whilst having an expensive car and big house, working 80 hours per week stressed out your head isn't a good trade-off in my opinion.

Never got away with the place. I don't drink coffee, but the wife does, and we generally avoid it.

Last time I was in, the tables were filthy and sofas knackered to the point that you might as well sit on the floor. Also the breakfast options were crumpets, crumpets or crumpets.

not think to, you know, maybe ask the staff at the time?
I know, I was a waiter at uni, used to do my bag in when they said we've been waiting 25 mins. Why did you wait 25 mins to let us know you'd not been served? if it gets to 5 and no one has been there is a problem speak up we are probably unaware you are waiting

aye totally twattish thing to say about Sue's cafe, just shows that money can't buy class.

however the issue with her being a dick about Sue's cafe is entirely different from the issue of her being a dick to the 18 year old ex-employee. did it ever get bottomed out?

her saying that about sue's doesn't automatically make her a terrible employer. just a bit of knob

I know as much as was posted on that thread to be honest. I do know they haven’t got a Facebook page anymore.

I remember their being some public argument between her and a young lass who left and had to fight to get some money she claimed was owed. Handled terribly, unsurprisingly, by that Louise, but doesn't necessarily make her a terrible, evil slave driving employer
