Latest boxing crack

are you new to boxing??

start the 8, oh wait boxer has'nt retreated to neutral corner - delay - restart count - check boxer knocked down can gloves up, check again

no-one should be surprised that the 8 is longer than that
I just hadnt seen it mentioned here, maybe for the reasons you state !

I’m not discrediting Fury but plenty others are i’m just asking a question because theres rumours of an appeal going in from Wilder because of the 2 long counts for Fury in 3 fights

i’ve seen it extended in the way you claim before not not many times have i seen it doubled !

Anyone seen the video’s and crack about Fury getting a standing 8 count at the end of the 4th round which actually covered a period of 15 seconds ?!?
Wilder fans love to start counting

Fact (and the rules) is that the ref counts. The fighter has to be up by 10 (although in practise, 8) and then has to do whatever the ref tells him to do. Ref needs to check the fighter is fit to continue, and these tests are not part of the 10 count process.

Its actually good practice NOT to get up before 7-8. Often a fighter's head seems clear, but when they stand, their legs wobble, and the ref almost always stops the fight if that happens. Popping straight up isn't a good idea. Instead, take the 8 count and give yourself the best chance to recover. Then the ref will probably talk to you, ask if you want to go on - if yes he'll ask you to hold the gloves up, walk towards him and clean the gloves off before re-starting the fight.

That can easily take 20 seconds, and that's if the other fighter goes to the neutral corner and doesn't get in the way. Wilder only has himself to blame for not doing the basics. But hey, that's Wilder in general, eh?

Yep. Once ref picks up the count from the timekeeper, it's a 10 count not a ten second count. If referee has to tell the standing fighter to return to the neutral corner it will extend the count.

I must of been very tired on Saturday night because I’m still wondering when the standing 8 count happened - A rule which only exists in amateur/white collar boxing.

I think people are referring to the mandatory 8 count rather than a standing 8

Was thinking about this before the Joshua & Usyk fight, and since then of course it's came into sharper focus....but been thinking about the DAZN switch for Matchroom and really ot sure it's going to work. Admittedly, I can only go anecdotally but I had the thoughts and then asked my mates and they said the same.

Basically DAZN's platform on firesticks and app based moves the boxing onto platforms which are already routinely used for piracy. Anybody using DAZN on their TV can pirate it , the price per month at £1.99 was appetising but when they increased it and (surprisingly to me) they asked if you wanted to continue with the new price of around £8 p/m I don't know many who renewed.

They'll have to make more in dedicated and hardcore fan subscriptions, compensating for hardcore who pirate the service, to make up for the shortfall of guaranteed SKY payments and the box office revenue. They're losing out on SSN promotion as well which was massive looking back on dross PPV cards like Chisora V Parker ....SSN can get casual fans buying that, but how many casual fans are signing up to the DAZN for 3 months to make the same revenue?

I can't see DAZN bringing in casuals at all, and will lose a % of regular fans to piracy anyway, and they lose the SSN coverage - irrespective of platforms like iFL TV which are only serving the regular fans by and large anyway.

---

Just my thoughts on it, what do you lot think? FWIW I think the production has been good on DAZN, but not revolutionary or as a make weight for viewing numbers.

I have said similar earlier in the thread. Hearn needs to find a way to get casual fans and people who would find boxing while channel hopping and get them to commit to the £7.99 a month. I'm not sure how he's going to do it. Dazn I'm other countries has rights to more sports but here the main focus are matchroom cards and a the golden boy cards from the US. I'm sure Hearn has thought of all this and will have plans to get the numbers up but whether they work or not remains to be seen.

Meanwhile Sky will still get canny numbers for its Boxxer boxing cards despite their roster being pretty thin at the minute.

DAZN will be fine. It's just a Now TV service with multiple sports on the platform... NOW TV is Sky's biggest source of revenue so the business model already has a history that it works.

DAZN's biggest issue is when someone's stock becomes so high it becomes unprofitable, like they've had already... Offered 40 mil for the rights for Canelo v Plant, BT came in and offered more and they've lost their golden goose already. The presser probably added a few more million to the value

Count isn’t in seconds though (it’s a referee counting)a long count is perfectly fine happened many times probably actually happens on most cards I would say the majority of the “10”
Counts are over Most boxers stay and rise at 8
