If I've read this correctly haven't they said it's £250M over 5 years?

From a players purchase point of view that's buttons. Ashley spent half of that in the last 3.

Their team will improve, of that there is no doubt, but it will not improve enough to trouble the big boys. They seem to think PIF are going to spunk Billions on them when in reality they are a entry into the PL for the purposes of Propaganda and to Sportswash their owner heinous crimes, which he is likely to commit more of in future.

And having wanted their club back it has never been further away from them.
sssshhhhh man ;)

Again, this has also already been addressed... What league have Sunderland been competing in during the last 4 years? And what league have Newcastle been competing in during the last 4 years?
Fully aware of this but it still took for you to be potentially minted for you to come and try to be a WUM to strangers who support a different club within 48 hours?

As I say, whatever makes you happy

Exactly this. Dafties on the radio were still banging on about having £300 billion to spend last night.
PIF has been around since 1971, its not a new intiative and has commited £40bn to US building projects and another £20bn to something to do with Donald Trump. Becasue the oil industry has a rapidly approachijg shelf-life, the family want to cement their dynasty for many more generations by making money, not squandering it.
Add the oher hundreds of investment vehicles they have and yes, they are going to be a very wealthy football club but highly unlikely to be spending Man City levels imo, of course.
Spot on. PIF is a hedge fund and is designed to make a profit.

Amanda ( Dubai based) is stating they wish to be champions of Premiership in around 10 years, by which time the majority of cars on the road will be electric.

No doubt they will be better off but the idiots celebrating at the landfill site just assume billions will be spent on players.

Stop and think

Ah, I see. Yeah we're owned by the worst of the villains. I wish I shared your conviction that people will care as much in the future as they do now. But the journalists will go to Qatar on their jollies, the impact of protests against the Saudis will diminish. The Government doesn't care, the PL doesn't care, the wider football world doesn't care (enough).

It's depressing, but it's fair to say that the atrocities already carried about by the House of Saud won't take up many column inches in 1, 5, 10 years time. New ones might.
Maybe yes but I'm not sure. The crimes committed by Prince Salman and the regime he runs comfortably outweigh any perceived crimes perpetrated by any other owners now or in the past. I feel this is a watershed moment. England footballers for the first time are showing some moral leadership and it's great to see. There's no way that Salah or Kane will go to Newcastle - they are rich men who actually have a set of deeply held morals.

Of course we don't know how this will pan out but there is genuine revulsion about what this says about the Premier League and, as I say, I think is a watershed moment. It's far from just jealous Sunderland fans. It really is an awful development for English football. Remember fans got rid of the Super League. We really are at a crossroads.

Exactly and, if they do buy one of Italy's big boys it will be a huge indication of this.

I think you're going to be in for a surprise. It won't go away no matter how much you wish it will do.

The choice of new manager will be telling of the direction they are going in.

If it is an investment your arguments are valid and most of these famous billions are tied up in investments already to the extent they had to borrow 15bn to buy stocks in 2020. If the manager is not Mbappesque then they will tart it up and sell it on, as they have it very cheap, in around 5 years. Mags will deny this but they are typically not long term investors and are already out of Disney et. al. from 2020.

On the other hand if the new manager is top drawer then they will splash the cash and try and be as big as PSG/City.

We will soon know.

The latter will ironically be the most fun to watch as they are starting from such a low base that makes it impossible to catch City, Liverpool, Chelsea & United. It also will signal to the existing squad that they won't be around which hopefully will lead to relegation.

If they don't get some top football people in soon they will squander billions as the new lord and lady know feck all about football.

Will be hilarious if players start turning them down

They don't get it, even Staveley has said they can't spend because of FFP. They'll continue to invest in other clubs, sports etc and as you say, they won't be losing money at all. I still think it'll go pear shaped'esque.
They are after Inter Milan too, so no doubt they'll want to hover up clubs all over the world.

was it Inter Milan was it, thought it was Juventus but I’m probably wrong.

I’m sure the Inter fans can’t wait to declare themselves the equal richest club on the Planet worth 250m.

🤦‍♂️

Can we not exert all our energy into talking about/supporting Sunderland, instead of bleating on (and getting angry) about Newcastle's Saudi takeover.

@The Fish (and all of the other mags) will be really enjoying this, so why keep up his/their entertainment?

I don't know what you's are all worried about TBH? It's not like we'll be playing them anytime soon and just for the record, our owner isn't short of a bob or two and seems to be rebuilding the club in the right way.

Let it go, what will be will be.

I'm not going for whataboutery here, but would Kane have turned down Man City? And Salah was quite happy playing for Abramovich (who's funded the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians). I'm sure there are players who couldn't stomach playing for a team owned by the Saudis, but there are plenty more who could. The PL is morally bankrupt, our takeover is just the last in the latest of takeovers by horrible people.

I can’t wait until the football starts again and we have something more interesting to talk about on here.
