I used to like reading his articles. Even his Newcastle ones were readable. But over the last six or seven years he’s just re-wrote the same Newcastle in the 90s nostalgia filled schmaltz over and over again.

You said that the Newcastle United LGBT group putting out a statement was no different to an LGBT person working for a company that had a contract with Saudi Arabia.
If they had said nothing then you had a bit of a point - although you comparison would be more accurate if the LGBT person worked for a Saudi state owned company. But they didn’t do that - as a group they actively welcomed the takeover of their club by a regime that puts people to death for being gay.
It’s a fair question to ask you to give a more comparable example.

And loves to go on about how so terribly bad their magnificent support has had it. Get in the bin caulkin man. He actually puts me off subscribing to the Athletic.

😂 clearly not. I think even Craig hope has took his retweet of the statement down unless I just missed it. But if he has done I’m not surprised. I understand a supporter turning a blind eye but basically for the pride movement to completely proffer themselves and sell out like that is.. we’ll a bit pathetic really is the best word

That's not the same as this though. If the mags genuinely had a conscience they could say that they don't want this regime associated with their club and their city. Many of your fans say Ashley hated you, your new owners are hardline Islamics who no doubt take a very dim view of the common image of Newcastle. They basically think you're infidels but they'll use you for their own purposes. I don't really give a fuck if some shareholders from a streaming company I use think I'm an infidel. I wouldn't want it from the owners of my football club though. I wouldn't want them using my club's name to sportswash their image. If you're fine with it then crack on, loads of ours would be too, but stop the whataboutery, it does you no favours and drags the thread in circles

They’ve willingly left themselves wide open to this and have nothing to defend themselves with. WTF did they think was going to happen ffs? They need to put their big boys pants on. They got what they wanted, this is the down side, I can’t believe they didn’t see it coming, and this is just the start of it. Wait til the press turns which it inevitably will.
