Instead of a tyne/wear derby, Newcastle is just joining the ranks of the 'haves' and if you haven't noticed most people really despise the top clubs. So, in future more people hating newcastle is something I positively applaud.

Sunderland will hopefully finally get ourselves promoted back to the championship and can concentrate on our own journey back up the ladder the hard way. But I think if you look at the difference between the two cities its always being that way. Newcastle was the governments administrative capital and has always attracted more investment and this is just a continuation of normal service after a hiatus following Ashley.
Agree about the parallels between the football clubs and cities. There's little point in trying to compete with them on an equal playing field when there are powers beyond our influence with zero appetite for levelling us up. However, I do think we struggle with our identity in Sunderland sometimes. It is possible for our city and football club to be successful with more divergent thinking on improving our own situation instead of envious sideways glances. None of that has changed with yesterday's news.

O/P is a raging fanny mind.

For me, this is the sad reality of the takeover. The Wear/Tyne derby as we know it will be no more, reduced to Sunderland v State of Saudi.

One good thing though, how can they ever truly celebrate beating us again, but oh how we can take the piss when little old Sunderland win against the ‘richest club in the world’.....

Gan sniff a bike seat ya mag vermin

This was their opportunity to perhaps redeem themselves in the face of the allegations of corruption levelled at them. They will never get another opportunity like this. How can anyone else fail this test now? They’ve set a precedent here. They’ve told the whole world in no uncertain terms that anyone is welcome to buy an English PL club as long as they’ve got the money. Nothing else matters.
The Qatari government were looking at Leeds 18 months or so back. Suspect that one will be getting rapidly revisited now.

No Sunderland supporter would be as pathetically weak minded as this.

It’s a really genuine offer. I am SAFC for over 50 years and someone has challenged that. He or she does not have to risk a penny of his own money, just prove his claim that I am a Mag and some charity will receive the cash. What’s not to like about that?

Balls to that, when we get back to the Prem and we play them it'll be every bit of a rivalry still. If we beat them it will be even better than before, not even the might of the Saudis billions can prevent them from losing to us.

If the detractors (Chi Onwurah and Newcastle Labour Council Leader Nick Forbes) who are quoting the human rights issues are true to their conscience then they can make a big statement ...... St James Park is owned by Newcastle City Council. As Freeholders and Landlords they could serve the Saudi Owners with their Notice.

I would guess that the new Saudi Owners will be looking to build their own stadium anyway and so the City Council will be left with a white elephant of a rugby league stadium which they can sell for housing and retail development

To the Reuben brothers, naturally. Probably all part of the plan.

Oh the irony in your post

So you weren't concerned about how he treated his staff? Got your club back from the nasty cockney man who bought it from the angelic Northumbrians.
I was, same as I think the way the Saudis treat women and homosexuals are abhorrent.

I wanted Ashley out because of how he treated my club and it's fans.
