Had this discussion with a mate yesterday. We’ve had the infrastructure in place a lot longer than they have at academy level, have several players we’ve developed either in our team/squad or playing professionally up and down the leagues. The two you’ve mentioned, one is a Premier League winning captain and the other is England’s number 1. This is despite several players let go for peanuts in the last few years and being in League One for the last 4.

In comparison the Mags have Paul Dummett and the Longstaffs.

We also seem to have an operating model (still a work in progress) that here is a place where promising young players can come and play games and will get their chance - Cirkin, Huggins, Hoffmann etc

They can hoy millions at it but they’ve a long way to go. The claims you’re making are ludicrous.

I’ll be interested to see the levels of investment that go into our academy moving forward though. Every success previously & even the likes of Neil now benefitted from what we already had in place. You have to remember that over the last 3-4 year we have lost a fair few staff members that were highly regarded in the set up. I know the Mags took one of our key recruiters & Leeds took someone else that was highly rated within our set up. We’ve been totally run down by absolute wankers and we’re only now trying to rebuild. Even now we still couldn’t hold onto the lad that went to Everton.

I take your point on being a place to give young players a chance but at the same time we are in league 1 & there’s a lot of clubs looking that way. Look at the success Southampton have had taking Livramento from Chelsea too so I am sure clubs will be looking at that. My point is on young players in the region going to Newcastle if they invest properly in their infrastructure.

We are gonna lose a massive generation of fans like, massive kick in the balls long term. We will be lucky to get 20000 in 10 years time, regardless of our league
Are we fuck man, we are getting over 30,000 in our 4th year in league one. Get back in the prem and we will get over 40,000 like we always did. They aren't going to spend the billions required to try and blow city out the water, in the unlikely event they do there's no guarantee of success. Man u have spent £1B just on transfers in the last 8 years since they last won the league, how many titles in 8 years, that's right none.

I wonder if she's ever heard the word "hypocrite".
I’m sure she does. But she’s not as familiar with it as “votes” and “self” and “promotion” How on earth Starmer is letting this go on on his watch is a big surprise to me.

Has it been mentioned what the PL are getting out of this? There's no way it's suddenly not an issue because of BeIn and then the PL receiving guarantees MBS et al aren't involved.

We have been averaging 30,000+ in L1 even when we were at our lowest with Phil Parkinson.

If Man United were as close geographically as Newcastle we wouldn’t be getting 30,000 now.
They haven’t bought Newcastle to make money, they’ll just spend spend spend. If they’re half as successful as Man Utd over the last 8 years they’d be over the moon

Part of being a supporter of your footy club is a sense of pride it gives you. I know full well that when swfc won summat or got promoted, I felt the warm glow of not only feeling happy but also knowing that most supporters around the country wanted to give us their appreciation.

I like that.

Never will the fans of Chelsea or Man city feel that way, they can't triumph without the " it's only because your minted", being thrown at them. The same will now apply to Newcastle if they ever win anything. Real fans of those clubs will deep down begrudgingly know that.

The shine of winning anything is totally dulled.
Ive no doubt the young uns will be giving it large, " loads a money" but it's all just false bollocks.

I feel sorry for them, rather than looking on in envy.
I take your point, but I would say that it's always been like that. Maybe not to the same degree, but all the successful clubs paid for that success. Man Utd, Liverpool, even Sunderland were once called 'the Bank of England Club'.

Somebody said that it's not our club anymore. It's not been 'our' club for 14 years.
