Energy suppliers going bust

Symbio have given me some insane estimates, I’ve had about 3 months free due to them overestimating and the building management firm giving me readings as often as the planets align. Yeah smart meters are meant to. Hopefully we get put with octopus, I’ve been with them before and they were trouble free.

I was about to call Symbio yesterday to see if they had sorted my issue and to my surprise when I logged into my email I had 6 emails from Symbio all with corrected bills for each month and now my account is sitting correct to the end of September.

Meter still isn't sending readings though. I'll leave that for EON to sort out once fully transferred over.

We deliberately overpay with Ovo, set the DD years ago to £180 pcm. We get 2% cashback each month from Santander and 5% interest on the balance from Ovo upto a max of £1,000, earns us just under £100 a year, buttons really I suppose. Draw the excess out during the autumn which is usually circa £1k. It won't be next year though with the current prices!!!
That's a decent return for doing nowt TBF.

I’ve just got the nod to say EON next have took over.

It’s quite warm today imho, if the sun is out then our house warms up very quickly.

It’s a bit shite that we’re at the mercy of gas exporters.

Yeah. Mine kicked in the other morning but it's not bad tonight. An extra £100pm isn't going to cripple me, but it's going to cause death in winter to poor folks with not much money.

LOP, if you're skint and can't heat your house, I'm sure there are enough of us on here who can chip in a few quid to take away that worry.

Was reading that last line expecting a sinister ending ffs! 😂

this is why this forum is simply the best in the world, what a wonderful gesture.

So Shell decided to email, told me to not cancel my Direct Debit as its getting moved over to them from green and told me my new rates:-

Standing charge (per day)
26.46p
Unit rate (per kWh)
20.207p

I think its the flexi rate but if I read the email right its fixed until April, so at least i can budget now, a canny raise compared to before, 9p a day on the standing charge and around 5p a unit more but a little less than I was expecting, i was fearing the worst.

That is circa a 300 percent increase on the standing order and a 400 percent increase on your electric isnt it? is that not going to almost quadruple you monthly DD?

Anyone priced a log burner recently? I realise there is new legislation coming out about the econess of the burner and the fuel you can buy, but could it give you some short term reprieve in the winter until things calm down, or it is massively more expensive in comparison still?

Jesus, it was only in 2010 it was about 7p per Kwh for electric and about 2p for gas.

I have no idea what the DD will be, still waiting on the account to be set up. I dread what happens in April mind.

I have thought about if its possible to switch from the grid a bit like, its getting crazy the prices, need to get my son to jump on the bus and charge up all our phones to save money lol
