Aye, not going to lie, it's a worry because they are being taken over by people with immense wealth, but the detail will be what matters. They can show all the graphics they want about £300bn, but that's the total they've got with all of their investments. How much of it will be available to be ploughed into a football club? How much will they be allowed to plough into a football club? How much will they want to plough into a football club?

I get their excitement, human rights issues aside I'd be excited if that money was coming to safc, but whether the reality matches up to the hope only time will tell. I'm sure they'll improve mind, if the Saudis want to make profit they'll need to invest in the squad and the facilities etc. As fans that should be enough, but now they've seen the eye watering figures anything less than doing a man city will be a disappointment.

My main worry is that they might be playing a long game. Buy a club for £300m and sell it for £500m is cracking business, but it's not a hugely significant amount for them. The alternative is that they see a super league as inevitable, and if they can find a way to get Newcastle into it (which they could, they'd pay their way in, the ESL was never about the best clubs) then that could be a massive recurring revenue stream. But time will tell, nowt we can do but sit back and hope it falls flat
They can't spend bg all at once , hopefully its too late ad they are relegated

To be fair, if they randomly did fuck loads of investments, it would benefit the whole region. I work for a main contractor in the construction industry and we have supply chain partners from all over the North East. Even if all the work was in Newcastle there'd be lots of employment opportunities for people and businesses in Sunderland. That being said, I don't think they're going to do anything of the sort. Probably invest in the training facilities, maybe spend on the ground (or buy a new ground). They might build some properties but I doubt there'll be anything life changing in that regard
They are buying some new strips for the Wallsend Boys club, that will be about it.

I thought we should be happy? after all "investment in the region" was promised.
You mean like Blairs great vision that if Newcastle was invested in and developed that the wealth would spread outwards from there. 30+ years and that's turned out well. Its a black hole that sucks all the investment in let's fuck all out. f***ing hate Blair with a passion and I'm as red as scarlet but he sold the region a pup. It'll be just the same again and with Teeside now getting the Freeport we will be abandoned once again. Anyway thank fuck for Kyril.

Just can’t see it marra.

If they wanted to do it, why do they need a football club aswell? Why haven’t the Reuben brothers already done it?

What’s in it for them?

Rivalry and human rights aside I think it’s good for the region. If they do invest heavily to the level of Man City then the whole of the north east will be improved.

I really like our current owner and certainly don’t have green eyes. We are building something special at Sunderland and it feels like our club rather than a retail business.
Man city had to invest in the area , it was part of the ground agreement, they had no choice

They've bought the mags (aside from the primary sportswash reason) as it's comparatively cheap, run on a very low cost base and profitable. With moderate investment in the infrastructure and squad they should/might be able to turn a decent profit on disposal. First challenge is going to be staying in the PL, appointment the wrong manager and they could very easily go down. January transfer business could also be utterly desperate.

Staveley (during the takeover saga) announced a transfer pot of £250M over 5 seasons. Man City's 2019/20 accounts show the club spent over £350M that year on wages alone, up 11% on the prior year, Christ knows what 21/22 figure will be but presumably close to £400M for the season.

Also that 250m wasn’t a ‘transfer pot’. It was the total investment in the club over 5 years.

Don’t forget about the Great North Run that they mentioned.

No idea how they’re investing in that like.

This one will attract much more scrutiny though, there’s a huge negative perception of Saudi Arabia in the U.K. particularly when it’s comes to women, LGBT issues and perceived involvement in 9/11, and there’s a direct link between the state and the club.

It will be forgotten in mere weeks if they get a 'Coutinho" style signing and he starts banging in a few 30 yarders.

If you really think sky would rather destroy their own product by talking about non football things during Newcastle matches then you are in denial

At the end of the day, theyve bought into the premier league and picked Newcastle as they seemed to be the only club/owner interested in allowing this to happen. Ultimately its all about money so who knows in reality.
Its very easy for Sunderland fans, or any fans for that matter, to say they would be disgusted at the type of 'ownership' coming in... as I said its all about money, and with money its hoped success, along the lines of City. We ourselves got a bit giddy at the prospect at a Dell consortium, though they don't generally behead their employees, so every Newcastle fan most rightly will get themselves a bit giddy by this news.

How this all pans out is anyone's guess. Regardless of the cash behind their new owners I highly doubt seeing the likes of 100m signings here there and everywhere. But you have to be honest, they could in all probability win a trophy or two, and maybes a premier league title.. if all they are concerned about is being able to get one over on Sunderland fans, these individuals have a very dim view of the whole picture of football overall. Lets be more concerned about getting out of the league we're in.
Got to feel for the likes of Bury fans knowing this much cash is about in football

How on earth will it improve the WHOLE of the North East?

If that's truly the plan then it's going to be hilarious.

Exactly. But it’s also sensible. They’re more likely to invest in the club’s infrastructure and future proof them, rather than jumping the shark and risking everything on a three year splurge for success.

We’ll see if that actually makes the fans happy. It genuinely should.

the more I read about PIF the better I feel jlaws article was very insightful

they’ll ultimately be in a better position but looking at it they’re not going to be a play thing for the crown prince
