What is Ashley’s “net spend” at the mags then?

he’s sold it for £300m

what did he buy it for and roughly how much did he put in / take out during his tenure?

probably very difficult to calculate like but it’s interesting since the mags seem so obsessed with net spend and see him as such an evil figure…
His net spend over the 14 years he was in charge works out at about ten million a season.

Last year it was reported they would invest 250m into the club over five years.

Whilst undoubtedly more than Ashley, it’s not a massive amount these days.

They’ll get their wish of being a stable premier league club with some ambition, but not much more. Unless they get some really good people running the club, then it could be different.

that’s only £50m over five summer and transfer windows. not too dissimilar to Ashley and even everton spend way more.

It worked out at about 10m a season on transfers alone.

That’s not taking in to account the fact he bailed them out when they were in the shit after Shepherd left.

Also a low net spend is viewed as a negative. They’ve spent the majority of his tenure in the Premier League, he appointed their Rafa messiah and he’s kept ticket prices low. Yes there’s arguements he could have been more ambitious and he’s use the club as a marketing vehicle for Sports direct, but he’s still ran them of their own accord.

If the mags are up in arms about owners putting their own names round the ground for sponsorship like Sports direct have they’ll be raging when they start seeing vistsaudiarabia.com and the like.

Bought it for approx £134m
Loaned the club around £140m which has reduced and increased at various times. He gets this loan back with the sale. So his net spend will be -£166m.

Not initially no, like I said earlier look at what Man City did it was signing the likes of Gael Clichy, Sagna, Adebayor, Robinho etc before then they moved up a notch. It will be similar with those, certainly won’t be signing Haaland or Mbappe but in 5 years time they may be in that position.
FFP but an end to any club doing a Man city. Do you think Everton only wanted to spend £2m this summer? FFP put an end to their spending.

They’ll struggle to contain their excitement over this !
The potential for cliched idiocy from the Orcs is utterly endless
potential? Just had a twitter browse and there are cliches everywhere! "No fan base deserves it more", "after the pain of Ashley", pictures of Worr Bobby even "Keegan" is trending.

It'll be Jones with Shola Ameobi as Assistant. Bookmark this.

Or Tim Sherwood

Bookmarked. :D
How will you spend your days now ?
423 pages and counting.
I don’t think many are denying that. Football sold its soul years ago. The Mags takeover is just lowering it further into the gutter.
I wouldn’t expect any Mags to stop supporting them because of this.
It’s the needy and hypocritical way they’ve gone about it all which shows them up for the pitiful sacks of shit that we already knew they were.
:D

At least the mags I work with can now stop pretending to care about Ashley's treatment of his staff... "nothing to do with his handling of wa club, I just can't get behind the blurk when his staff are on zero hour contracts"

Hoy a bit of money around and it's "we want saudi"

Everyone is loaded in the prem now, city, Man U, Liverpool, even villa and Everton.

Players don’t look coming here unless they have to get paid mega bucks. Success is not guaranteed.
It’s a different landscape now, the biggest sporting club in the world have spent over £1B since Ferguson left and haven’t won the league, or even came truly close to winning it. Every club in the league has money and power now to say no to selling their players, look at the money City had to part with to get Grealish.

they wouldn’t want to

for all the shit the ESL got their financial model for clubs was probably more “fairer” and didn’t play into the state backed clubs

Barca and Real Madrid be fizzing
Barca might be. We've got more money to spend than them.

Just had the misfortune of watching Sky sports news.

‘Some of the most ambitious owners in world football’.

How do they know this like?
They don't have the faintest idea of their footballing aspirations, if they're are any. Buy club, invest moderate sums, break top 6 in 5 years, sell at a profit.
