Not initially no, like I said earlier look at what Man City did it was signing the likes of Gael Clichy, Sagna, Adebayor, Robinho etc before then they moved up a notch. It will be similar with those, certainly won’t be signing Haaland or Mbappe but in 5 years time they may be in that position.
They may or may not be, although throwing money at it mighty not be the best path to success.

The top clubs and PL is awash with money and billionaire owners so the mags would always be completing with the likes of PSG, Man City / Utd, Chelsea in that event.

I’d more worried in they invest heavily in youth and the academy providing a path way for top talent to the 1st team that takes much longer and is the approach that KLD and the new set up at SAFC seem to be taking… that would be far more damaging than them throwing money at it like Everton have tried for example.

Chelsea will always pick up better players than the mags regardless of money. Elite players want to play in the big cities. London/Manchester not in the north east. They live millionaire lifestyles anyway.

Football is a completely different beast to what it was back then man. You can't do a city or Chelsea now.

Them up the road's whinging has gone on for so long, the new regime are going to have to draft in bus loads of psychologists to stop it continuing, and help them deal with the fact they won't be the outright envy of the world for a very long time, if ever.

I think the fact that they wanted the waiter as a manager shows they will go down the hoying money around route, but probably nowhere near the amount required "to be the next city"

They are going to invest heavily in youth they’ve already said that. I get that some people are ‘I’m a Sunderland fan I don’t give a shit what Newcastle are doing’ I wish I was more like that but this does have massive implications for us there’s no point pretending it doesn’t.

They are going to spend shit loads but who can they realistically sign?
THEY ARE NOT!!

The mags think this is the case, but they won't.

Back in 2008 when City were taken over there were few competitors with cash and they signed Robhinho (who actually thought he was going to Utd), Jo, De Jong, Bellamy and Shaun Wright-Phillips at a cost of 100m. Using the price of footballs inflation figures that is 236m.
For comparison their 1996 spend of 20m is around that in today's terms and back then they really had Man Utd with deep pockets.

It just is not going to happen and all this BS with pie charts showing PIF wealth is nonsense. PIF actually had to borrow money in 2020 to fund equity purchases as all their assets are tied up. Just relax, let them enjoy their moment and watch how it inevitably falls apart.

You might be the 1st Sunderland fan I have on ignore on here. What a bedwetter.

How on earth are the mags going to ‘catch up’ with city or Liverpool. They will strengthen each year and it would take billions to do that but FFP and premier league rules wouldn’t allow it.
What’s the worst that will happen? A £50 million fine that gets overturned/reduced when appealed

I'm off to bed, as it's late. I will try and respond to the torrent of abuse I undoubtedly receive tomorrow when possible.

I feel like I've not made myself come across very clearly and it's hard to do so when responding to so many people at once.

I feel you are right.
Jesus Christ. The mackems are being nasty to me.

Comparatively speaking they tried as much during the 90s the fee paid for Shearer at the time was the equivalent of what a £100 million player would be today.

They were still competing with Man Utd, Aresnal, and to a lesser extent Chelsea at the time. Although big names came to the North East they still failed to attract the best players in Europe.

They will of course improve and might break their long wait for a cup. However, regardless of how much they spend won’t turn in to some European power house or have a decade of repeated success (the game isn’t set up to allow that now) and is a closed shop at the very top.

I wonder if the Sunderland supporters pissing themselves with this news are too young to remember 92 - 00 when the mags last spent big? Adversely SAFC also had our most successful post war period during this time.

Let’s worry about and concentrate on our own approach which so far looks great under KLD. Let the boasting and bold claims come from the deluded masses up the road it’s what they do best.

Of course it does and those saying they couldn’t give a fuck are either not Sunderland supporters or have their heads firmly in the sand .

The youth side of things is my biggest concern. If they set up a Man city style academy hovering up all the local players, then that will make what we're trying to achieve a whole lot harder. Again though that will take years to set up, which touch wood we'll be back where we belong.
